Shaw was 1 concussion away from becoming a vegetable. Good on Bergevin for banking on him while he still had value.

Hence why the blog says this: Yes, I know, trading Shaw was not a bad idea, his value was high and his concussion history was scary so if a team was willing to take him, we had to let him go. The issue wasn't sending him packing, it was failing to replace him.

I'm not roasting him for trading Shaw, I even say he was right to do so. The problem is that it created a hole in the line-up and his production was not replaced. I was amazed that a team came knocking to get him...trade him for picks fine but you need something to replace him in the line-up if you intend on being competitive and Bergevin intends to be every year...or so he tells us. I feel like he traded Shaw thinking that roster spot would be filled by Aho but then he made that half arsed offer sheet attempt and when it didn't work, he didn't try to find a plan B there lies the problem.

Byron was supposed to take his place but got hurt. If he was there all year performing like he did the last 2 weeks that he played no one talks about that.

Habs have tons of left wingers. Bergevin must've thought that one was going to take the load (Drouin, Byron, Tatar, Lehkonen, Hudon, Cousins, etc).

Byron is great and all, but not top 6 material...

Shaw wasn't a top 6 player as well.

The lines were:

Tatar Danault Gally
Drouin Domi Shaw

If he expected one of Byron, Lehkonen or Cousins to replace Shaw, then Bergy is even more poop than I thought.

How many (frank)ing wingers does a team need ? I don't blame him at all for not getting another one. It's not like Shaw is an irreplaceable stud...

The point is that Shaw had top 6 production on our team. Bergy expected one of those 3rd/4th liners to replace that production. Solid plan.

Shaw had a career season. Look at his previous production and you can see it was a fluke. What did you expect Bergevin to do ? Trade for a top 6 winger when their defense is poop ?

Well, going by his plan to remain competitive every year, then yes. He left a big hole on the second line and then expected to make the playoffs...

His plan doesn't make sense. Trading Shaw and not replacing him was still a good move IMO.

Unless it could've been done for cheap. Which I doubt.

Exactly!

It was a good move by our logic, not by his. It was contradictory to his plan.

That I can agree with.

I blame him for having such a fragile team that losing Andrew (frank)ing Shaw is a reason given for their poopty season. Don't blame him for trading him though.

just with the injuries, they have plenty of excuses to go around, no need to bring up the loss of Androu Chat
