What is your point with this? Are these deaths more more important then the 80,000 people last year that died from the flu? How come you don’t care about them. They were parents, kids, grandparents. Do their lives matter less to you because it’s not a new virus?

2,765 of Tested are Positive (8.5%)
465 of Positives are Hospitalized (16.5%)
34 Deaths (1.23% of Positives)

Those deaths (flu) are unfortunate, as are the current deaths from covid.

That being said, the nation of Italy has suffered 9,117 (or so it has been reported) deaths from this disease in the last 30 days. In that same month, the daily death toll has risen from 17 (Feb 27th, 2020) to 919 (March 27th, 2020). If it continues to spread (and kill) at that pace, how long before it reaches 80,000 (in Italy)?

What’s more, Italy is a nation of roughly 60 million (IIRC). The U.S. population is near 330 million (again, IIRC). If one were to take the current situation in Italy as the worst case scenario, and imagine a similar scenario in a nation with over 5 times the equivalent population... well I can understand his concern.

No one really knows how this will play out of course. But considering what this disease has done in the last month, I’d say concern is justified.
