Personally, I feel that a Gladiator style fight to the death between the owners is the only way to pick the lottery winner.

For the draft, let the standings sit where they are.

For the cup have a july madness tourney. All teams in. Just for the sake of the league and fans.... but i suppose that wouldnt fly , imagine Detrout winning the cup and getting 1st pick. Very unlikely but possible with that scenario.

If there is no return to play: All rental trades are reversed (UFA's on expiring contracts) if teams that gave up picks wish so, and you do a normal lottery based on points percentage.

the bottom 10 are pretty much set as they have no chance to get into a playoff position, 11-15 have a chance.

If season completely canceled then if they do anything but by point percentage for 1-15 and from 16-31 where each team finished in standings there will be massive fan and owner backlash and lawsuits flying all over the place.

Season should be able to re-start in mid April, whether the NHL decides to do it or not is up to them.

Drastic times call for drastic measures, and not everyone will be happy. People should embrace the fact that there will be shorter playoff rounds, and next season will be shortened.

Based on the standings right now (when the season ended) have teams 7 to 10 in each division play one game to determine Wild cards. Only team that realistically gets screwed is Florida. Then first round is best 2 out of 3 (all games on higher ranked teams ice) or 3 of 5.

If u you want to push it, you could have a 5 team mini tournament in each division to determine 2 Wild cards. Or make the 7 to 10 wild card games best 2 of 3.

Draft lottery stays the same for teams not in playoffs right now.
