Who's calling for old people to die? Haven't heard anything like that.
- kaptaan

I was paraphrasing, but here it is...

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said on Fox News Monday night that "lots of" grandparents might be willing to die from the coronavirus in order to save their grandchildren from living through another Great Depression.

"My message is that let’s get back to work. Let’s get back to living. Let’s be smart about it," Patrick said on Fox News. "And those of us who are 70 plus, we’ll take care of ourselves. But don’t sacrifice the country."

"I just think there are lots of grandparents out there in this country like me — I have six grandchildren — that's what we all care about. ... And I want to live smart and see through this, but I don't want the whole country to be sacrificed. And that's what I see."

There isn't any hockey going on, nor will there be anytime soon.

If we can't properly discuss what is undoubtedly the largest crisis of our times as it unfolds then what is a suitable discussion?

I'm not interested in burying my head in the sand. I'm far more interested in solutions.

- golfingsince

Oh I don’t mind discussing it, at a high level, but to get into the complexities of it will take a lot of typing.

I agree that the self isolation and distancing is crucial, my original comment was, at what point does the bigger picture take precedence. Three months, four months, six months?
- Pacificgem

Whatever date that decision is made is going to shape everything.

Just in this tiny hockey forum there are huge different points of view. There is no solution just a day by day decision making process for the world leaders.

We went to war to pritect our way of life. No depending on qhat your point of view is we are giving up our way of life by hidimg at home or we are going to war by staying home it is very very unique

This pandemic will absolutely ruin the worlds economies, but they can be salvaged over time. My issue is with the unnecessary loss of life with this virus, I get the impression that most people are just associating the virus with old people, which may be the most susceptible but individuals of all ages are also becoming infected.

Unless all efforts are taken to stay the spread of the virus, the economies of the world will never recover fully, my opinion.

Something I find ironic about this whole situation, (and not being identified anywhere) is that the generation that is screaming that the older generation has "ruined their future" is the same generation that is flaunting preventative measures and is a contributing factor to spreading the virus.

I feel sorry for the responsible youth and want to jail the dumbasses, you want your economy back, be responsible.

- Makita

I agree but I don't think the country is doing enough. It's time to enact emergency measures and enforce it along the supply lines.

The fact that is one a thought two a potenti option shows how there is no correct answer to what we are currently dealing with

When there's a vaccine that's been tested and ready for delivery, not until then, there's just not enough hospital beds/medical supplies/health care professionals to risk ending the self isolation/distancing before then. You are looking at total breakdown of society if enough people get sick and overwhelm hospitals. Look at Italy, that's what we're looking at if we're not careful, that's the bigger picture here.

Economies will recover, it may take years, but I'll take being poor over millions dying because people were too worried about money instead of being worried about people and the consequences of going against expert opinions.

You have no clue about what goes on in the USA. I think Canadian media has brainwashed most people in Canada to think the USA is filled with rural racist hicks, and urban hipsters/ minorities.

Proven, tested, approved vaccines won’t be available for a year, there’s zero chance of the continuation of current practices for that long, zero.

I don’t think there’s an approved SARS vaccine yet, when was that outbreak?

1 month maybe 2 at most and that is crqzy pushing it.

Is it possible to take all the govt funding and smash it into ventilation production and healtj care? Open covid hospitals in steel buildings and get kids out of med school to help? No clue if thag is at all viable but it may make more sense then shutting everythimg down for months on end

I understood your original comment, but I think the country and world have to restructure, learn to adapt to the "new realities". If it takes 6 months there will be adjustments, but I don't think you can leave a virus to continue to infect people at a staggering rate, what happens if it mutates

Right now there are fears that arise from the unknown, like your friends that have been directly impacted. But their situation isn't unique here, yes they will have to adjust like millions of others.

Our country is definitely not doing enough, they are juggling trying to keep things normal and being semi forceful, please stay home, please.

I honestly believe the world will be a different place on the other side of this, what that looks like, who knows.

This man couldn’t get continued funding for a corona virus vaccine, hopefully this changes that mindset within the world’s governments.

I think it’s funny that some people want to preserve a system that only benefits the 2%. Our world system is broken and massive change is needed. This might be the perfect time to rethink the whole damn thing.
