The only good politician is a dead one, the only good politics is a dead discussion, time to switch from democracy to anarchy and let everyone rule themselves rather than have a government!

They should just use the standings from the regular season and have a normal draft, the season was almost over.
- Pacificgem

This makes a lot more sense. If the season ends where it did, aggregate wins is just fine. All 31 teams in the hat to get top3 picks makes no sense. And what, the standings don’t effect it at all so detroit has the same odds as Tampa?! Makes no sense imo.

I can understand both sides of the argument, I’m reading the most probable solution is to rank by winning percentage, which makes sense. Ottawa would be furious if they got screwed out of the SJ pick, which was fourth overall best odds when the season was temporarily halted.

Personally, the teams in the playoffs aren't as caring about the order of the draft, it's the teams that are below the playoff bubble that haven't all played the same amount of games and therefore would require some sort of calculation to set the draft order in order to get better/worse odds at the top 3 lotto. Really, do you think Boston, Tampa, St. Louis, Vegas care if they get a top pick in the draft? Sure, it'd be nice to have, but this isn't 2005 where someone like Crosby or McDavid are there for the taking, they're more concerned with having the playoffs be played as they were on track to potentially win the Cup.

What I don't like is there is a lot of assuming. It has not been a balanced schedule . Some teams would have 4 home games left some would have 8 . We won 4 of our last 14 and to assume they are a playoff team with 14 games left is a big assumption.

As someone mentioned some teams went out and gave up draft picks to trade for players to help them in the playoffs that may not happen.

Appointing a team a playoff spot is a big * for me . Same as the cap . This is an unusual year and should be allowed unusual solutions.

I don't get too worried about it for the most part. I like to stir the sh!t a bit and do appreciate most posters in here. It's a nice place to come and chat and kill time regardless of everybody's beliefs.

It's fun to poke and prod a bit but really convincing the 'left' to change their beliefs is about as useless as convincing us to change ours. Are there ironies on both sides? Sure. Trump may be alot of things but that doesn't make him a bad President. The same 10-12 posters come in here to bash him because it give them common ground to talk about and feel good about themselves. But yet only one person recognized Trudope trying to seize dictatorship-style power under the table. It is what it is.

I'm sure we'll get through this time ok. Just remember to support your family and friends that need help especially in the tough economic times coming. Everyone believes something different and whether we agree or not, we need to respect it.

All he had to do to acquire this was enact the national emergencies act, and despite calls to do so he has refrained.

And Trump is a (frank)ing idiot, he keeps contradicting his top medical advisors and those from around the globe because he's worried about his precious stock market.

That's ok though, a week ago you still thought this virus was a "democratic hoax" and likely still do deep down.

I hope the NHL puts a one year 10 % increase freeze of UFA/RFA this up coming year .

I think when the season does start up there will be fans that can not afford tickets or merchandise.

The next year or two could be eye opening for finances.

A what?! Like a memorium on salary increase? Not going to happen, there’s no way the PA would allow that

I don't know how you can be so absolute about something. No one knows what the solutions will be . The only thing that I am almost sure of is that it will not be business as usual.

When the choice comes down to buying a ticket to the game or buying groceries there may be a lot of empty seats.

If the NHL is finishing the season in August do you think there will be free agency on JULY 1 .

Will the NHL need the PA approvoal for that?

Actually they do need the PA to agree, although I am pretty sure the league and PA have already had those discussions.

They are courteous discussions . The PA will have very little to say in the next couple of months.

They will have input about the safety of the players but as far as finances it will be the NHL calling the shots.

An estimated 380 million will be lost this year in revenue if the season ends .

Either way some teams, owners, players, and fans will come out of this pissed off. I have a feeling it’s going to be a bit of a poop show regardless of the good intentions of the league.
