Just for fun, Second City Hockey is hosting a challenge to field the best Blackhawks team during the 2010-2020 decade.
I don't particularly care for their guidelines as it requires too much thinking, looking up advanced stats, etc. and is just rather restrictive for something recreational.
Here's my initial stab at an all-decade lineup:
Saad - Toews - Hossa
Panarin - Anisimov - Kane
Shaw - Sharp - Bickell
Bolland - Kruger - Frolik
Ladd, Versteeg
Keith - Seabrook
Oduya - Hjalmarsson
Campbell - Byfuglien
Brookbank, Rozsival
Crawford
Darling
Honorable mentions:
DeBrincat, Murphy, Emery
Flame away! - AEL_Fox
My forwards would look like this:
Saad-Toews-Teravainen
Panarin-Anisimov-Kane
Ladd-Sharp-Hossa
Versteeg-Bolland-Byfuglien
(Shaw)

Emery would be my back-up. Sopel would definitely be before Brookbank for me. Sharp would be on the wing. Bolland would be between Bicks and Shaw for a real pain in the ass line. Saad, Ladd and Kruger would be my 4th line. |

I’d move Niemi in instead of Darling - the main goalie in the first Cup vs. one that was critical - but in only one series - in the third.
Strange that of all of the defensemen in the decade, the only two logical choices for the third pairing played only in one season - the first. They couldn’t find any others in the next 10 seasons (maybe Leddy). - StLBravesFan
Campbell was with the Hawks for more than one season. |

Yeah - he was there through 2011.
My point remains. |

Nice list, and fun exercise. The only change I would make is to switch Brad Richards for Anisimov. - Chunk
I had a tough time deciding on a center for Kane. It was between Anisimov, Richards, and Handzus. Ultimately selected Anisimov because of the chemistry he had with Kane and Panarin for two seasons.
Even when he wasn't producing points, Anisimov was doing little things to help create space for his linemates like drive to the net, eclipse the goalie, and cause some havoc around the crease. Not good on draws but was defensively sound. |

Elbows chimed in already about Campbell playing multiple seasons for the Hawks (4 seasons in 2 tours of duty). Byfuglien played a few seasons but 2009-10 was his last as a Blackhawk due to the cap purge.
Your point still stands, though, about the Hawks not being able to breed another impact D-man. I think you're right that Leddy was the closest yet he wasn't even drafted by Chicago. |

Teravainen crossed my mind but part of me didn't want to dwell too much on Teuvo the Hurricane who has been a beast in Carolina.
During his initial years in the NHL as a Hawk, not so much. Decent player who was scratching the surface. Just not enough to crack an all decade team. |

What if Hawk fans stopped stressing themselves out and understand that the Hawks are in the middle of a rebuild where so much of the roster are very young and part of the roster are AHL not NHL calibre and that the Hawks are a ways from competing. - paulr

Good call on Sopel. I was down between him, Brookbank, and Roszival for the reserves on D. Sopel wasn't the prettiest skater or the most graceful in execution but he just got it done defensively. |

I can't argue with your points. I just always really liked what Richards brought to the team. That situation worked out perfect with him being able to come in on a cheap deal and get another Cup. |

As much as I liked Sopel, the three-wheeled shopping cart will always have a spot on my team. He was that #6 d-man that you never really noticed (outside of Shaw's shin pads goal) and that is exactly what you want. |

If Panarin wasn't on my all-decade team, then I would take Richards over Anisimov to play center for Kane and likely Sharp as the LW. Richards even in his latter years was a playmaker with great vision and hands. Decent on draws at 50% career average.
This would then cause a chain reaction to re-order the forward lines but there are other viable options to formulate lines especially if this is an all-decade team and not a cap-strapped squad. |

Hi Guys, everyone still having fun?
My wife and I are planning a trip to the local fast food drive thru for probably tomorrow or the next day. I'll send post cards.
In the meantime - enjoy the time away from space invasions ... I know I am.

Lol very well thought out. I was considering dressing up in extra nice clothes on my trip to the grocery tonight simply out of respect for the other humans I encounter (also I had to get dressed anyways). The khakis I threw on were plenty respectable as there were some haggard looking sweat suits staggering out of there ...on a hockey note I have to check if KHL is going on |

What if...the qualifying offers had been sent out before the deadline...
What if...Bowman didn't give Bickell 4+ million...
What if...Bowman didn't give Kane AND Toews 10.5 million and only gave them 8.5
What if...Bowman didn't give Seabrook nearly 7 mil for 7 years...
What if we still had Panarin...still had Saad...still had Leddy...still had Teravainen...still had cap space to sign decent free agents...
All of my final "what ifs" would have been possible if it weren't for ONE person and the what ifs mentioned earlier. BOWMAN. What if we fire him sooner than later... |

Fellas, if any of you need some hockey to kill your time, here is a link to a page on youtube that has all Hawks playoff series from 2009-2012.

I re-watched the Van series from the 09 playoffs and the 10 playoffs and Andrew Ladd literally hit everything that moves. |

This is great! Thanks for sharing Nickmo.
Update on my end, just carving out a fun blog that will be up before noon. I am starting a new series called, "Random Blackhawks Spotlight".
Any guesses on who the first random Hawks player is?
Virtual high-five to the person who can guess it! |

If we are talking only each players best season with the Hawks then I'd put Sharp at Center assuming its 2010 Sharp. If Byfuglien is at forward put him on Toews line and drop Saad down to Brouwer's spot and the 4th line would be Shaw Kruger Brouwer. Any way you cut it that bottom 6 would be nasty to play against.
Saad Toews Hossa
Kane Sharp Panarin
Laad Bolland Brouwer
Shaw Kruger Bickell/Versteeg
Seabs Keith
Oduya Hjam
Campbell Byfuglien/Rozsival (I thought he was really solid on the '13 run) |
