What if Hawk fans stopped stressing themselves out and understand that the Hawks are in the middle of a rebuild where so much of the roster are very young and part of the roster are AHL not NHL calibre and that the Hawks are a ways from competing.

That would make Tyler's blog moot.
And no matter what, we like Tyler!

For the what if's .I thought signing DeHann and Shaw was a very risky move ,but that is mostly hindsight .I really don't understand why Kubilk was not on the top PP ,that was a huge miss from a young inexperienced coach . I really believe ADB will rebound ,think his sophomore slump was delayed for what ever reason . I have great confidence that the HAWKS will have a great summer and hope for next year .Will there be a season next year well I hope so .. Stay safe out there

I wasn't a big fan of bringing Shaw back. I thought they would be much better served going after someone like Dzingel. Whether or not they could have gotten him is obviously up for debate. I just seemed to me like they keyed on Shaw because of familiarity. Otherwise, I don't see why you would make that deal.

20/21 Hawks

Centers
Close to roster locks – Toews, Strome, Dach, Carpenter
In the mix - Kampf

Wings
Close to roster locks - Kane, Kubalik, ADB, Nylander, Saad
Maybe signed – Caggiula
In the mix – Hagel, Highmore
Current concussion issues – Shaw
Probable buyout - Smith

Dmen
Close to roster locks - Keith, Murphy,
Likely to be ready opening day or soon thereafter - Seabs, deHaan
Likely to be signed – Mitchell
Maybe signed – K4
In the mix - Beaudin, Carlsson, Seeler,
Current concussion issues - Boqvist
Probably traded – Maatta

Goalies
Close to roster locks - None)
Likely to be signed – Crow
Maybe signed - Subban, Lankinen
In the mix – Delia

I did not list longshots like Sikura, Gilbert, Kurashev, Entwistle, Krys, Regula, Quenneville. But it would not surprise me for one of them to make the opening day roster, especially if there is an injury.

If the Hawks have lottery luck, an early 1st round draft pick could have a shot too.

Ya I love Shaw and all he brings and was excited for his return .Now looking back and knowing his injury history and 2 years left on his contract ,it really was a dumb move by someone that should know better .I hope for Shaw sake he can return to normal life and maybe hockey ,but his style of play is not conducive to that happening .

Dzingel has only 8 goals on the year, was last year a one and done? historically his stats are no better than Shaw's is.

Gus was here to provide the offense like he did the previous season and then when Boqvist had more development in Rockford, time for Gus to go. Bowman got lucky with Boqvist NHL transition ahead of schedule. Bowmanost out in that Gus trade value decreases.

I still feel strongly that Bowman screwed up the handling of Jokiharju. But Nylander is a worthwhile exchange if he pans out. Not so much because Nylander has ability to put up some points. The team needs another skiill forward to produce. We can present a top scoring team with DeBrincat, Dach, Strome and Nylander producing. They need a defense with. Beaudin Boqvist Carlsson and eventually Michell to move the puck. Murphy and Keith balance out the group. Maata or Special K is traded.

Seeler and Gillbert are depth Kyrs is behind Mitchell for a look should we have an 8 jury to a skill dman Shea is a wild card whom could be needing minimal AHL experience.

DeHahn won't last with his shoulder issue.

Not so much for production, but less lengthy list of injuries. I also liked Dzingel's overall game a bit better. Much fewer penalties, and about the same production.

Interesting that 4 of his 8 goals and 5 of his 21 assist were on the PP. I am surprised he got that much PP time.

I would guess, for likely similar reasons to Shaw. He would stand in front of the net and was strong enough to stay there.

Not necessarily season changing, but:

If we still had Jokiharju, would he be getting the same scrutiny that Nylander has?

I can't believe it took this long to get to the what if on Henri the great.

I forgot to put my "what if" in red font. I could have gotten everyone all red-a$$ed and asked:

What if Stan never made the Danault trade?

Regarding any talk of trading Mitchell (Darth proposed it in the last blog), I would think he has zero trade value. Isn't he untethered from Hawks this summer, basically a free agent? I believe he's completed his college time and is free from his draft status and can sign anywhere (ala Kevin Hayes, and others). If that is correct, then his only connection to Hawks is the goodwill they've built up by the way they have treated him for the last several years. If they traded him, he has no goodwill with the acquiring team, and why would he not simply open himself up to other teams and decide where he wants to go...including back to the Blackhawks. And if you say the Hawks would sign him 1st, then trade him, how would that work for their future in a situation like this, they would have ruined any credibility they have with these college draftees, and nobody would trust them. It seems to me that Mitchell is the one young D that can't be put into a trade hypothetical to cull the herd.

He’s a junior this season.
He either signs with the Hawks or goes back for his senior season.
And you could have easily looked that up on the DU website before typing your diatribe. Thanks for the opinion though !

That would have been the time to do so. Bowman could have possibly maximized the return on that trade. Another Blowman fail.

- BGKarras

Not saying you specifically, but when I was banging the “trade Gus now” drum last off-season, the vast majority of people here said I was crazy. Seems like there is now a lot of revisionist history happening on this board.

What rock have you been hiding under? You know his good moves don’t count for anything...only the suspect ones.
