whelp, we can discount bogo because everyone here said he shouldn't even be in an nhl uniform...

pilut was injured to start the season and needed time to get up to speed...plus, based upon the second half of last season, he needed a lot of time in Rochester

Gilmour is not an nhl d-man as his 37 games in three seasons might indicate

nelson seems like a tweener

and Borgen is not ready...in fact, it would behoove the team to keep him in Rochester another season and not rush him.

Jason? Jason is that you? lol.

Thanks, but that is tested right? What is the "presumptive positive"?... I assume that is a certain % of already tested but for which no results are known at that time.
I'm trying to understand the raw number of tested.

i read somewhere that maryland isn't even reporting tests anymore, only positives

which is transitioning from murray to botts...

he inherited bogo, Okposo and risto's contracts which totaled over $16m and only one of those players was moveable..

he signed skinner long-term and traded for miller who had three years on his deal...

seven players 25 yrs. old and up are free agents after this season (including 2 rfa's) and another, Johansson, is signed through 21-22

so where is the problem?

- Michael Pachla

Because this is where the 2 narratives on Botterill clash and his tenure stops making sense, in my opinion. I dont think you can hold these two thoughts in your head and have them both make sense:

If Botterill was waiting for this off season to make moves, then what was the point of spending assets to acquire the players he did?

If he wasn't trying to be good, he spent a good amount of assets that are walking out the door.

I believe he tried to be good this year and failed. I dont think this was a stealth tank, or they were waiting til 2021 for players to leave. He wanted those players. He's probably going to keep some of those players if he's allowed to stay.

This is what I believe:

He thought between Mitts and Mojo, he had fixed the centers. He thought Vesey was primed for a career contract year and he'd look like a genius. He thought Sheary had more to give. He thought Hutton was a solid 1b. He thought Ralph would buy some more wins. He thought GMs would be clamoring for his depth.

He just miscalculated the entire thing. The coronavirus might save his job

nelson, bogo, Gilmour and Borgen should not be considered capable nhl d-men...

I think he was trying to win this year as well...he failed...why?...many reasons including goaltending...montour playing his opposite side had something to do with it but goaltending, which isn't being brought up, had much more to do with it than too many rhd's...

lack of mid-six contributions is another thing...much more detrimental than too many rhd's...

I said early in the season that his main focus, based upon the number of free agents coming off the books, was this off season...and i'm sticking by that

This is where I disagree with Ion as well.

These two issues are inextricably linked to me. The roster spots and the trade assets were largely allocated to the defense to an almost absurd level while the forward ranks were filled with wingers we didnt need, and no centers

Too many RHD isnt just a problem for the defense; it's a problem for the entire roster

goalies stats were not great in that era
Hey. He sucked and the others sucked more. Don’t blame me I wasn’t the goalie coach. Most goalies either flopped around like a fish out of water or were not technically refined as they are today. Stand up or lay down we’re the options. Either use stats or don’t use stats but the fact is the game has changed and Hasek being good then certainly doesn’t mean he’d be good today.

100%

when you have a great player on an ELC it is the most advantageous time to make a run

we wasted all 3 of eichels and we have wasted 2 of dahlin's

- robz228

This point gets hyperbolized to the extreme.

This isn’t like having an elite QB on a rookie deal.

Who was the last team to win the cup with a superstar on an ELC?

Chicago 10 years ago?

three years ago everyone was saying that the d needed a complete overhaul...last year prior to the season risto was supposed to be a big piece of that overhaul...the d has been overhauled with everyone's vision of a modern nhl d-corps featuring dahlin, montour, miller, the joker and pilut next season...who fills the other two spots is up in the air right now...

clusterfrack from last year has been worked through with the status of risto and McCabe still up in the air

No argument here.

But Toronto has “wasted” Matthews, Marner, Nylander ELC’s as well and they are still all on the team and we’re able to add Tavares.

It’s just a silly point
