Brandon Montour suffered the worst of the big five, essentially going from a potential Rasmus Ristolainen replacement to “should they even qualify him?” status.
I know you're a stats guy Michael but the bolded above is the kind of hyperbole that is silly, IMO. - kingcong39
Im not saying I would do that, Im saying thats how bad things got at one point, some fans were totally over him ( I dont blame them given how things went) |

There's only one line capable of successfully playing high event hockey. Montour was miscast all year playing in various out of place positions, but that was always going to be the case because he and Risto are redundant and occupy essentially the same role - jcragcrumple
When they made that trade last Feb I assumed the Risto deal wasn't far off because he's basically what a modern version of risto is. Never really made much sense to keep both. Then they added Jokiharju and Miller and still chose to keep him. Just really strange |

The blatantly obvious choice is 55.
Montour at say 4.5 mil for 4-5 years >>>>>>> Risto getting a raise to say 7 mil long term in two years. - sbroads24
I’m on that side of the fence too but my expectations are low at this point I’d move either or.
Heck could even move Montour this offseason and Risto the next. Borgen can play third pairing minutes, Joker and Miller can handle top 4 minutes. |

They need a 1st pairing RhD for Dahlin as they don't really have a suitable partner yet.
IMO it should be a tough, stay-at-home, D-minded type that leaves Dahlin to roam and join the rush...I don't think any of their Dmen are good partners for him.
Hence why I would trade both Risto and Montour and let Joker be the 2nd pairing RhD.

Chad from Die By The Blade did a mock lineup for next year where he signed Jokiharju to a 4 year $16M deal.
I'm interested in signing TJ Brodie as the veteran 2nd pair RHD anchor this offseason and trading both of Ristolainen and Montour. |

I like Brodie. He was a dark horse Norris caliber player a few years ago.
He’d be a solid 2LD with Miller if they trade 62/55 |

“ Brandon Montour suffered the worst of the big five, essentially going from a potential Rasmus Ristolainen replacement to “should they even qualify him?” status”
As much as he’s probably just not as good as we’d hoped, I think his partner/playing off hand has without a doubt hurt him.
He’s a serviceable player still IMO - sbroads24
Was a horrible bust of a trade |

You have an issue trading away 1sts for Kane and ROR, but you shrug this one off.
Its crazy how bias you are. |

Why are we completely writing off Montour ?
Even if he isn’t in our future plans but can fetch a top 6 forward in return he is still an asset. |

Huh? I was talking about the player, not the trade.
As of now, it’s probably not a good trade.
Also, the Kane trade is worse as of today.
Guhle isn’t good (I thought he’d be very good) and the first was what, pick 30? |

We got more for Kane then the Canes got for Skinner and they rented Kane for 14 regular season games (and a playoff run)
So 14 games of E.Kane and a borderline prospect d-man got us Montour.
I’ll take it. |

Pretty much.
And again, in terms of the Kane trade, Armia and Roslovic are two middle six pieces this team would absolutely benefit from.
The big issue was Kane was always a short term add. He wasn’t signing here as a pending UFA |

Time to stop the fantasy of believing Botterill can clean up the mess that Tom Murray left. Time to reevaluate the Amerks coaching failures and time to reevaluate the assistant/developmental coaches in Buffalo and Rochester. My idea is to bump Krueger up to Buffalo as a hockey Czar to make positive decisions that draft and target players to play a unified style. Enough of Botterill unilaterally acquiring players such as Miller and coach Krueger promptly sending him to the pressbox. |

The return for Kane and the acquisition of Montour was fine imo. It's the lack of a cohesive vision to make that move fit into the framework of a team that failed. It's ridiculous that the roster construction forced him to play forward at times. Even playing LD is bad. When you pay premium RHD prices, there needs to be an emphasis on proper utilization. The whole thing was botched but the upside is that Montour might cost less |

Yeah that’s the issue. Same with Miller.
We traded for Montour/Miller to play one at LD and the other in the press box half the time? |
