This is abysmal for an “elite shooter” playing with an elite center, sorry.

Skinner had 32 in his spot last year

- sbroads24

sabres also played a mind numbingly boring offensive game this year

for example: eichel had 200 less shots at even strength, in a season where he was "shooting more"

in 54 games. 38 games since his first one

In his rookie season

- ieetbred

That’s still not good.

I think the first 10 games where Olofsson was unstoppable on the PP warped people’s minds.

He was a ghost playing with Jack Eichel all season, who’s playing like an MVP.

How are we that concerned with him making 7 mil down the road?

No, you asked me where i got the number from. It was the table in the link

unless there was no table there then i have the wrong link

- Michael Ghofrani

Well their explanation of that number leads to this chart. Where it clearly is "not enough data" and is all over the place

Crazy how you don't mention that part

It was literally the first thing i mentioned about olofsson. That we don't know enough about him, that's why im pro bridge deal.

Also that's there explanation for shooting talent above average, not for goals above average.

15? is that for EV or 5v5. I thought he hit 12 this year at 5v5

If you want a better one Sheary outperformed his goals/60 shooting roughly around his career average at 5v5 (before the trade to PIT i mean)

- Michael Ghofrani

I dont view Girgensons or Sheary as a useful analogue

You must not sit close enough to the TV

I am concerned about him making 7 or more down the road, If they can sign him 6 years 4mil thats what I want to see

Because neither have a visually pleasing shot or because neither got to spend extended time with Eichel?

Sheary with Crosby >>>>>>>>> Olofsson with Eichel

Imagine worrying about giving Sheary a giant contract down the road

Girgensons could barely remain upright on his skates when they played him with Eichel the past 2 seasons.

sheary's best year was 25 primary points (with a 13% shooting percentage)

It’s the entire crux of the conversation

Give him 5 mil now long term or bridge him and give him a giant contract in two years

Compare Sams first full year with Olofssons or the second year when he had 8 even strength goals even though you don't consider Olofsson a rookie but the NHL does. Even though this is only the 2nd year he has played in an NHL sized rink with NHL space and not more space like in Europe, but you don't consider that.

How did the first 10 games warped peoples minds about his 5v5 play when it was games 17-52 when he began producing 5v5?

Or bridge then trade.

To me this is the future of the NHL. Squeeze everything out of you can out of surrounding players until they start asking for a salary in relation to their performance then trade them for future or prospects and start the cycle again.

Any Sabre not named Eichel, Dahlin, Cozens, Joker can kick rocks after the next 2-3 years for all I care. Reduce, reuse, recycle

I mean, his first full year Reinhart had 13 goals and 10 primary assists at 5v5. He had a higher individual XG, and a higher shooting percentage with more shots taken.

I honestly don't believe I'm particularly smart and so Im fully aware i am susceptible to confirmation bias, cherry picking, strawman even when i dont realize it.

But the majority of the discussion around olofsson has simply been about trying to poke holes at whatever numbers I use and very little about actually showing why Olofosson is worth a long term extension. I get being an easy target, but it also gets away from the original discussion.

Unless I missed it, the best pro olofsson argument has been one where we discount the first 22 games.

His last year in Pittsburgh, Sheary and Crosby combined for 47 goals. Jack and Olo have 56 in this shortened season and that's with Olo missing an additional 15 games.

I use advanced statistics. I value them as part of the broad picture. But it's this condescending tone used by the analytic community that turns people off to it

And Olofsson was a 7th round pick compared to the 2nd overall, playing on a smaller rink than he grew up on, and on many nights has dominated compared to Sam. If he wasn't hurt, he was on a pace for close to the number of points as Sam. Not bad for a rookie finding his way on an NHL sized rink. I think we have a keeper.
