I am not a fan of chicken skin so I rarely eat them or KFC . Just a couple times a year.

Grow up and stop trying so hard to be a know it all who thinks he's better then everyone. You don't know what I or my family are going through right now in this situation. End it and talk hockey or whatever else.

I’m drinking a bottle of Bollinger SC, celebrating my wife’s birthday with a great meal (at home because, you know, self isolation). But fuck me this thing is fucking our shit up on the regular.

Shwap's idea from earlier today, of putting an asterisk beside the winner's name if the cup is awarded this season, made me curious about different playoff formats over the course of the NHL's history. There's actually very little consistency and some very interesting arrangements.

Early on there were single game eliminations and as few as two games in the finals.

For some years in the forties, first and second place finishers during the regular season got a bye while the other 4 playoff teams* played a best of three. In the second round, the two top regular season teams played each other while the winners from the first round played the other semi-final. The winner of the top 2 regular season teams played the winner from the bottom 4 in the final.

After expansion and the increase in the number of teams making the playoffs, first round best of 3 games were played from 1975 to 1979. For 1980 the first round increased to 5 games. The 7 game initial series we're now used to came into effect in 1987.

There's lots of interesting historical info on this at https://www.hockey-reference.com

*NHL was a seven team league for several years. I had completely forgotten about an entire NHL franchise.

Hey guys,

The Hockeybuzz threads have largely kept things in line so far with regards to the virus and its certainly appreciated. I don't believe anyone here is taking any advice from posters, but nonetheless please resist giving any advice that isn't TV shows to binge, activities to pass the time, or simple pleasures to enjoy.

Despite the lack of hockey, the increase of self-isolation/containment/quarantine and social distancing leads me to believe there will be continuous activity here and encourage everyone to keep it light and positive wherever possible. If you find yourself getting worked up, please be like the Italians and step outside, belt out some opera for a few minutes before coming back

Keep well everyone

I stepped outside with the wife on the balcony and did Bohemian Rhapsody . My neighbor yelled at my wife to shut the hell up. She turned to me and asked me if I was going to let him talk to her like that? I told her He is not wrong.

Late yesterday, the project I am working at, made the decision to start sending people home, while keeping a skeleton crew.
It is a shame to see how many of the workers wouldnt follow health recommendations, like washing your hands, or covering your mouth when coughing.

Now, back to hockey.
I was impressed with Hughes and how he was adapting his game, on the defensive end. Although, I think his weakness will always be playing without the puck, the kid is an incredible talent.
Elias needs to get stronger on his skates, the kid is on the ice more than Raymond, still an incredibly smart and talented hockey player.
I have eaten crow over these 2 guys, but, am fine with that.
Overall a pretty good season from the guys and the team's improvement has been greatly appreciated.
Look forward to another entertaining season, next year.

Thanks,

Nicely put, There are going to be several statements, points of view, general WTF type of things written here. To allow it to get people into an aggressive, angry response kind of ruins a perfectly good blog and the overall thread of hockey related posts.

Sorry to hear of the shutdown, unfortunately it is inevitable everywhere, going to be tough to survive this economically as a country.

I sent all my staff to work from home as mandated by HQ, except a handful of essential individuals. Walking into an area that usually has 30+, but now 4 is really a strange feeling.

Hughes is a special talent, I always joked he was the next Bobby Orr, well this kid will hopefully prove me right. Looking forward to seeing him play for years in a Canucks jersey.

It was the right thing to do. Many of us, were concerned about the 1500 people in camp, always in a lineup etc.
As a local, I will be part of the skeleton crew.

Quinn is more Paul Coffey than Bobby Orr, IMO

Good to hear you stay on and collect a pay cheque still.

We are all going to have our comparable, I saw one poster liken him to Scott Niedermayer, his skating sets him apart, al a Bobby Orr...

I dont remember a player, since I've watched hockey, that plays and reminds me of Hughes. (I'm 32 years old). Hes such a unique talent. I also dont think the canucks, in their history as a organization, have had a defenseman as dynamic and as game changing as him.
