So using the Powers/Lazerus plan we would have essentially the same team except Maatta and Smith leaving and Tofolli and Shalunov being added. They probably also assumed Mitchell would be signed.
Hmmm ... counting the number of top-9 forwards, I count 10 - Toews, Kane, Saad, Kubalik, Dach, Cat, Strome, Nylander, Tofolli, Shalunov. There's been talk about trading Saad but hopefully not for the purpose of signing Tofolli. I'd rather have Saad at $6M than Tofolli at $5M.
So if the Powers/Lazerus plan is to have all 10 of those top-9 forwards on the team - then which one plays 4th line minutes? Nylander's played some 4th line this season but if the objective is to determine if he's worth further investment after next season - he needs to be put into a top-9 offensive role. Maybe they thought Shalunov for the 4th line? Not Shalunov's strength either though ... so ...
By the by: a lot of posters seem to have a pretty favorable assessment of Carlsson as I see him listed in lots of lineup projections for next season - just a caution to slow the Carlsson role just a bit - he's played only 6 games so far. I like what I've seen so far and he might be a good 6/7 "utility/depth" d-man but too early to know. - EbonyRaptor
I have similar thoughts. I'd much rather have Saad over Toffoli if only one could be on the team. Saad is a much stronger 200-foot player. If both are on the team, then that leads to the next point.
Nylander needs to play top 9 with hopes he has the capacity to play top 6. Another season on the 4th line really does not help him or the team. If he plays 4th line again, I'd much rather trade him and get assets back that can be used more effectively.
And I am starting to like Nylander more and more so would rather retain him to let him reach potential. |

Pretty big news: Stan Bowman will stay with the Blackhawks despite the team missing the playoffs for a 3rd straight season.
(with quotes from Rocky) - pdx2ord
Rocky likes the team's "prospects" but less enthusiastic with the team prospectus? Well Stan followed orders, trying to improve team while team was sort of competitive. Added prospects too. No total crash and burn after three Cups. Comparable as for satisfaction to restaurants being closed but at least you could go to MacDonalds drive thru. It was not steak mignon but it was ok
Yeah some of their food is not worth eating but other stuff is ok. |

Wouldn't hurt to see Blackhawks players had even a small amount of that aggression. - jhawk59
If he could play and wasn’t in his 60’s I’d sign Cup as a 4th line grinder. Don’t always agree, actually rarely agree, but love his passion. |

As can be said with most players, I really like him with Kane. He is doing less on the periphery and doing more attacking. More shots from the slot, and going between the dots more often. I actually think his D has been above average as well. He backchecks very well covers his areas well enough. Just needs to eliminate those 1-2 bonehead plays per game. |

I really dont see any reason with the present situations, that you start stirring anything but unity / loyalty.
I am simply not sure the entitle fan hysteria warrants saying StanBo gets canned, that JC isn't developing the future and keeping the vets engaged, or JC, (and upstair management's) assistant manager choices are where you want to concentrate because it only makes the case the wheels are falling off the bus and more ticket holders decide that if the bossRocky says the these employees were not moving things in that right direction, why should I pay for now tickets when now was muddles by them?
Like Nylander you let this play out as long as you can or when you are certain you have a hockey guy(s) who are far and away better that the guys now in place.
Don't give the entire organization no credit for every worded statement they make...they are smart enough to control the dynamic...
it is unfortunate that the Trib beat writer of two years deemed this as his controversial line in the sand. |

I don't remember Toffoli having a good "one timer" which is ideal playing opposite Kane? |

It depends. Does the Armchair GM get to pick their own coaching staff? - Chunk
It's required to also include your coaching staff and GM for each team. Although it sounds like Bowman will be here forever. |

We can create the fantasy teams on capfriendly then reference the link for all to review and comment upon. Good thing about capfriendly is that the salary cap is factored in. - boilermaker100

You have to factor in Saad is a UFA after next year, I assume you sign Toffoli for multi-years at $5 mil, but I am not a Toffoli fan at all, he hasn't been very good since 15-16, basically putting up less than Saad numbers. And his 200 foot game has slipped since then also. I would rather see if they could sign Mike Hoffman for around $5 mil per for 3 years than Toffoli.

Dan Bernstein will tell you Basket Ball is more physical than hockey their legs and feet wear out much faster in Basket Ball. - rpeters01
Bernstein is an idiot, one of the reasons I have not listened to that station in years. I have played both organized hockey and basketball(not professionally), and I can tell you that hockey is more demanding physically than basketball. That being said basketball is also physical, those who played under the boards can surely attest. By the way, the NBA sucks as much as Bernstein. |

6 goals, 4 assists in 10 games with VAN. Perhaps putting LA in his rear view mirror was what he needed. |

Looks like NBCSN Chicago is starting to re-run classic Hawks games:

Cool. Game 2 of the 2010 Nashville series tonight. Spoiler alert Hawks win 2-0 tying the series at 1-1.
I bet they show only the games the Hawks win throughout the playoffs. The Hossa OT winner was the Hawks 3rd win of the series. Should be replayed in a couple of days. |

my guess is the cap will be unchanged for next year there will be a huge escalator to cover the shortage or REV and they will include 1 compliance buyout or 1 AHL bury for free. |

Compliance buyout scenario...if we trade Seabs (50% retained) plus a 4th to a team for the purpose of buying him out, would the 50% retained go away when they do? Would we be able to resign him? |

Different kind of athletes. You take guys abnormally tall with long skinny feet and leg bones who still have considerable weight, pound those bones on hardwood for 15 years beginning at 15, guess what they are going to break. Bernstein in his infinite genius failed to discern the difference in body types between hockey and b-ball players. |
