Wiz, by this time all teams have reports on the Canadian, American and European prospects. Let's say the CHL and European leagues are over and will not resume. This means that prospects won't have the chance to move or down the rankings based on their play the remainder of the season or playoffs.

My questions are how often and to what degree in the past have prospects really jumped up or fallen in the rankings based on their play this late into the season? Or have the prospect rankings pretty much stayed the same throughout the season? With a shortened "window" to scout prospects, are NHL teams going to be less confident of their selections?

Exactly what you said is why I am where I am in the process....there is no junior playoff head to head to watch...so basically you will. not have all that second guessing, reordering, and overthinking on the kids and what you thought they were before it shut down.
If this was last year, all the draft punditswoulds have had Dach as a top three pick, but the scouting community widened their eyes looking for the buried treasure gem with upside and the March/April performances help raise many players' high upsides.

So yes, we will see teams who did good homework over the last couple years having opinions they will hold firm. So I would say, good scouting staffs will have less flipping and flopping in their projection.

We all know there is no exact science...if I get enough done, I was thinking about writing a huge article based on reviewing all the past decades pre draft scouting projections. all the nhl teams rankings for the hockey news of their owned prospects (of course there is PR involved, and the FUTURE WATCH published in the past...my head has been stuck on wanting to do this as I remember how Marion Hossa was listed by Ottawa as afterthought, maybe 5th in their prospects pool by their organization pr...

Look at last years draft class and we all know there were a whole lot of likable kids and now is the time they have to put all the pieces together over the next 3-5 seasons, even though we as fans think that the pay off should be sooner...and many of those dominant junior level guys will not work to hone their upside, or can't reach the higher levels due to all these forces...that is why the drafts always have later selections excelling and guys undrafted, and get better, figure it out and are "surprising." (do I try and throw Mark Giordano and Dominck Kubalik in the same sentence, here?)

Simply for the sake of discussion, what are the pros and cons of the team running the Hawks right now? What are your expectations considering their entire situation?

If it were the Bears who haven't won anything in over three decades I'd agree. It's not like the current group has never had a history of winning.

I don't mind Bowman getting at least another year to figure it out. If he can't, maybe one of the Armchair GM's who post here can engage their superpower of hindsight and fix all that ails good team Blackhawk.

Nylander Daze J P Dumont

Daze was with Amonte and Zhamnov? Maybe Dean McHammond? But perhaps Daze was on the line at times too...

Nylander was so slick with the puck. Loved watching him.

Grosek. He was awful. He was pretty good for the Sabres when they made it to the Finals with a bunch of mostly no names around Hasek.

He was putrid as Hawk. Think the Hawks traded Gilmour and JP Dumont for him IIRC.

- HawkintheD

Yeah I totally forgot about that Grosek trade. It was pretty bad. He was terrible. He was one of the first whipping boys even before Krispey Kreme. Man thank God we have boards like this now, makes it much better to fume with others about players like Grosek.

Top 5
Martin
Makita
Savard
Roenick
Toews

Like you said. Hard to name five. There's at least a dozen others I could name. Even though Kravchuk was listed as a Russian I believe he was Lithuanian...though I don't disagree with the sentiment and really liked him in his time with the team.

Bottom 5
Karpovtsev
Behn Wilson
Boris Mironov
Mikhail Yakubov and Pvael Vorobiev (what a waste of the 10 and 11 picks)
Wendall Clark

- HawkintheD

Yeah when Smith went all out Russian and we snagged Yakubov and Vorobiev, we got the wrong Russians lol. Think they were the picks when we gave Vancouver our 4th to so they could get both Sedins? Wasn't Bryan McCabe part of the deal too?

Kravchuck was sweet. Think he defected at one of the world games and then joined us. I'm not sure why we didn't keep him long. My pops and I realized we could see the Igor Kravchuck card through the Topps or whatever company packaging that had the Russian Stars subset and we must have gathered like 10 of his rookie cards from Venture, K-Mart and Jewel Osco. Man those were the days.

I think that's why Elbows hates Joe Murphy (and by extension homeless people) so much. Didn't the Hawks trade Kravchuk for him?

Pretty sure that was a different draft. Will look it up but maybe that was Smith's first?

Believe it was under Bob Murray that the Hawks traded the 3rd or 4th overall pick to the Nucks for Brian McCabe so they could draft and announce the Sedin twins together from the podium...something like that.

Joe Murphy looked like the guy drinking Boilermakers at the end of the bar in some saloon somewhere, later to be found passed out with his head on the bar.

Well, Yakubov and Vorobiev won as many Stanley Cups as the Sedin twins, so the trade was a wash.

Don't have that clear a memory of Murphy and the pts he was putting up.

How bout Broadway Bernie? Did you like him at all? He was kind of a wuss in the corners but he put up some pretty good numbers with the Hawks.

Bears acquire QB Nick Foles from Jacksonville for a 4th round pick. Some competition for Mitch.

Too many Blackhawks I like(d), no way I could cut down the list. My least favorite

Moen
Janssens
Poapst
Feamster
Bollig
Goyer (probably the worst skater to lace up the skates and see an NHL game, let alone a full season EVER).

Nicholls was okay. He was mostly done by the time the Hawks acquired him, IIRC. Still put up some decent numbers with the Hawks.
