I don't think the depth of talent is significant past the guys who have already made it, and fingers crossed on the first two picks from last year, who I don't expect to contribute for another two+ years. Maybe you get Fatty/Benn type minutes from on of the D, not exactly exciting. Didn't care for the Madden pick, kid is so small, but he proved at world Juniors and in college this year to be better than I thought. To me that's worth keeping to see where it goes.

It will definitely take a few more years . A lot of things have to go right but I am enjoying the process. I seen the growth of Petey from one year to another and there is still things to work on in his game.

Hughes in his rookie year has blown all my expectations . Pod K is going to be a strong addition , I am calling it now

I am hoping it is a priority. To me it is just as important as Markstrom .

I haven't heard anything because I haven't looked but does this games lost affect the salary cap for next season?

If it went down (that would be I don't have a word) Bad? for a lot of teams.

To me it's getting some value after trading away a 2nd round pick in a deep draft.

Yup, it seem's that he like's it here. Always good to have talent like that with a ring.

Yeah he has instant chemistry with his line . He could be a 30 goal guy here plus he loves the city.

It absolutely does affect the cap, no revenue means smaller cap numbers. Elliott Friedman was talking about it yesterday or the day before.

I can see both sides of the fence with peoples perceptions on the team.

I think I was more surprised by Pettersson’s rookie year than Hughes, I used to joke that he would be the next Bobby Orr. Pettersson was like a gangly kid that seemed to go splat when checked. Hughes is poised and calm and seems to stay away from being hit for the most part.

I know how teams would be able to get under the cap but that could seriously change the landscape of the entire league. Free agents are going to have to take much less.

I think the cap went up too fast and considering the players are paying back as much as 10% of their salaries every year. The cap isn't really an actual cap in a way.

I hope so. I enjoy the weeks leading up to the draft. At least a 2nd rounder.

I need 2- 2nds one in the top 31-40 and another later in the 2nd to get who I want. Doesn't mean they will get picked there because I know last year everyone I wanted in each round went a round before I had them pegged.

Whatever I think they will give up people will hate . You have to give up something to get something and Jake is one of the few pieces that has value.

I thought you were against trading a developed player for someone who may never play in the NHL?

Is the pick or JV more important for team success right now? I don’t know the answer to that, just wondering what your thoughts are. I’m not as high on any of our prospects contributing to the club in any significant way in the next three years so they should probably keep JV.

This is very much a mediocre team without great goaltending, I’m not sure trading established players for picks is a great idea when you’ve finally made some progress on the draft floor and with a good trade in acquiring Miller.

As long as they aren't giving up Jake to get rid of Bear (or similar)

Agreed. I would keep drafting and developing. Stay away from waivers and jump into free agency after the initial 48 hours.

If Jake signed for less than two mil per I would keep him but that is unlikely.

I made my choice and it was an easy choice to keep Toffoli over Jake.

Like Vantel said, maybe move a prospect, and someone not named JV?

Too bad Benning has so many bad contracts on the books from reaching and covering his ass all at the same time because keeping both would 100% make the club better.
