So I don't think anyone is going to like my next prediction but once again I see it as reality. That prediction is that this will become a wasted season and there will be no playoffs. Why ? Because I think that Canada will get Covid-19 under control long before the USA does. Canadian Citizens are self-isolating but most Americans are not. So you are going to end up with a situation where one country, Canada is way ahead of another country , USA, also Sweden, Germany , etc. So players, fans, etc from different countries, maybe even different States , will have different progression rates.

So how can they restart under those circumstances? Possibly some players on each team might have it , or be under quarantine, and can't play, or can't even fly back to North America because of closed borders. It's messy. Maybe they just do it in November and then a new season in January....that would be fun.

BTW.. this is inevitable unless a vaccine breakthrough happens. Then life might get back to normal a lot quicker.

Till then ....stay well !

You were the first to correctly identify how serious the issue was so I don't want to be the guy to say you are wrong but I hope you are wrong.

China is opening movie theaters 3 months after the virus became known. Is there a chance life looks more normal in late June?

What's everyone think for next season - will the Jets try and re-sign Dylan DeMelo - or go after a bigger fish?

My gut says they try and re-sign DeMelo, and go forward on d with Morrissey, Pionk, Poolman, DeMelo, Heinola, Beaulieu (a re-sign), Samberg (if he signs and is ready) and Dahlstrom.

Any extra cash for a 2C upgrade.

Let's hope there is a next season!

They should absolutely try to re-sign DeMelo, there are a few chips around to use to shop for a 2c and cap space available. Even if they don't find a new 2c I still see Little as an upgrade. Until the contract is completely voided or a formal retirement announcement is made there is still potential for the return of Byfuglien - and that is still an upgrade on a few of the other d in the mix.

I have more hope for hockey next season after China announced today that they are opening movie theaters. Approximately 3 months from when the outbreak started. They will have managed it better than us due to people doing their duty for country and giving up their spring breaks. If they can get a lid on it in 3 months we should be able to do it in 4 months.

The biggest piece of long term damage is likely to be on the economic side.

Just how many people in smaller cities do you think will be able to afford season tickets or even same-day game tickets. Retirees savings and pensions have been devasted. Luxuries like going to a game instead of watching it on TV are a thing of the past. So then with half-full arenas , exactly what GM is going to jump into free agency and sign someone for stupid money. Fans are going to look on athletes such as basketball players and their $100 MM plus deals with shame and may not be willing to suddenly support those numbers ( while people are broke) by not coming to games There is going to be a significant paradigm shift coming to all major sports leagues for the next year or two.

Is it the free agent college guys or the drafted players who are signing? I see mostly free agent signings.

It’s anyone eligible, since the year is cancelled, any drafted player in college is eligible. The non drafted guys are signing to.

Have the NCAA playoffs officially now been cancelled? The last time I saw it mentioned it was only postponed.
Samberg had said at that time he didn't want to sign and then have to miss the NCAA playoffs.
I probably missed the announcement re cancellation. Hard to stay on top of hockey these days.
