This is the biggest thing to me. I have 3 kids. 5 months, 5 year old and 7 year old. The wife and I are pretty healthy so I’m not overly concerned with us but it’s the fear of the kids getting sick and not being able to help them. - bryant
Some good news for sure. |

She is feeling 'flu-like' symptoms and is awaiting a test.. This is getting crazy - PatC80
One of our employees out west has been battling the flu this week...we’ve been cracking jokes, but now I’m starting to wonder. |

I just wouldn’t trust numbers from a surgeon in UK.
The CDC. That’s it.
No friend of a friend. No media member. Enough is enough.
Numbers are being thrown around by all types of media outlets. Good and bad.
Don’t spread news that isn’t confirmed to be true. |

Yeah. Once the CDC comes out with an estimate and not the “confirmed case” number you’ll be shocked. |

My mother is nearing the end of her life.
If she got anything right now, she'd be dead in 24 hours. |

My mother-in-law lives with us. It doesn't sound like she's in as poor health as your mother, but she's in her 70s and has COPD, so I'm pretty wary of any respiratory virus.
My wife and I have season tickets to the Rock, and there's (maybe) a game tomorrow. My wife is all for going, and I'm sort of like . . . uh, but should we?
Edit: The NLL has just suspended play, so I guess that's one decision I don't have to make. |

Yeah, I can see your point, but, we’ll get to see if he’s full of crap or not in just a few days.
Italy is a mess. My next door neighbour - first generation Italian with tons of family back home can vouch for it. They are in contact with their family every single day...I’ll take their word. |

Just picked up my 87 year old dad yesterday to come and stay with us for a while. He’ll be pissed if the game gets postponed. |

So my backup plan if tonight's game gets cancelled is to take the kids to our local pub (unwritten rule: when my wife travels for business, her last night away we go to our local pub).
It's kind of a sports bar - it's going to be interesting to see what will be on the TVs.

actually normally people in the field (doctors, nurses, specialists) have a much better vision on what is actually happening in the hospitals etc. than the pencil lickers of CDC and similar organizations.. |

I’m agreeing with you way too much today. On issues of hospital capacity, front line doctors know way more. Also they’d certainly know about what was coming in terms of expected caseloads, etc. I’d still go with organizations like CDC on macro numbers and things like that. |

The plural of anecdote is not data.
Having said that, I was just on a non-hockey forum I frequent, and a woman (US resident) was posting about how her husband - an anesthesiologist (he would be an anaesthetist if he was Canadian) - was being told to prepare for Armageddon. He may have to move into the hospital, work 24 hour shifts, not allowed to see family, etc.
It could get very wacky. |

I'd tend to agree with this.
The CDC does have to remain somewhat relevant, so at times you can question their impartiality. They are also somewhat politically manipulated in some ways right now, which constrains their ability to be transparent. That said, the CDC does receive second hand information from a lot of sources, and once aggregated and corroborated is probably a good source information.
Front line doctors and nurses have no reason to lie or overstate the problems. If you knew and trusted the source, I would give them the respect they deserve. |

The problem is front line staff tend to over-estimate the severity of things, because they are so immersed in it, they can't see the big picture.
You have 3 people come into your emergency department and die, you think it's an epidemic. It may just be coincidence. But it's hard to fight that emotional reaction.

Was reading this thread and Dreger was speaking but due to reading I might not have heard him correctly.
But it sounded like he said it will not be suspended. |
