There are reports of young adults who have a stuffy nose and that’s it and tested positive.
The CDC will soon have to come out with an estimate and not a confirmed case number. - Santo_44
Tests are done in labs, often multiple times given the likelihood of false positives and negatives. I don’t see how cases are being reported based on runny noses. |

If you live in South America, stock up.
In Canada? Yeah you’ll be taken care of. - Santo_44
I'm in Europe - so similar level as Canada as for stability and economy.
I was surprised to see supermarkets like this already...
Don't be too convinced about the strength of the system - again, the part that worries me most is the irrational decision making by individuals and in particular big groups of people. |

What if they dont play tonight?
Does Florida make the playoffs in this scenario? - LeafGuy89
As of this minute, the Leafs have a better winning percentage. |

The NHL rarely suspends after the first incident.
I suspect the NHL will let covid19 have another chance before suspending anything. - Fakepartofme
Perhaps you have forgotten about the suspension of the 1919 Stanley Cup.
Viruses are multiple offenders.
Throw the book at them. |

Jazz star Donovan Mitchell has tested positive for the coronavirus, league sources tell ESPN. Jazz players privately say that Rudy Gobert had been careless in the locker room touching other players and their belongings. Now a Jazz teammate has tested positive. |

So here's something to chew on:
Let's just say hypothetically that the NHL says that tonight's games are the last games of the regular season, and they will go straight into playoffs when possible.
Because of differences in games played, they'd have to go by winning percentage (points divided by games).
If the Leafs lose tonight in 60 minutes and the Panthers win, the Leafs won't make the playoffs.
Any other scenario and we are in.
Yes, I have tickets for tonight. Today will be interesting. - Atomic Wedgie
Leafs can still make the playoffs under your hypothesis.
If the Leafs were to lose in regulation and Florida was to win then the Leafs would still be considered for a wild card spot. They currently have a better point percentage then Columbus. This also would be a moot point if either of Columbus or the Islanders gain a point as they would be ahead of the Leafs

Yesterday, the CDC, FDA and National Institute of Health Infectious Diseases all testified before congress. They said, under oath, that coronavirus is 10 times more lethal than the flu - Canada Cup
I had an interesting conversation with a friend who had a conversation with higher-up mucky-mucks at a major Canadian life insurance company.
According to them, the death rate is artificially high, because China is wickedly under-reporting the number of infections.
If the death rate is # of deaths divided by # of cases of infection, keeping the denominator artificially low blows up the death rate. |

I haven’t been sick since I retired 6 years ago. In the past day or so I’ve started to think differently about what I do. I’m 66 and relatively healthy so I imagine if I ever came across this virus I’d likely only get quite sick but I do now think a bit differently. I used to go to the grocery store every day after deciding what to cook. I’ll probably do 4 or 5 days shopping at once now. I canceled a haircut I booked kind of on a whim a few days ago. I really don’t feel like going to a mall to have a stranger fuss around my head to cut my hair when I look great anyway.
I don’t think this counts as panic. I’m more aware of the impacts on my own health and those around me and I have no problem if employers start shutting down workplaces even if it means losing hockey. I’m more concerned about people who are marginally employed - in bars and restaurants- who are (frank)ed if those start to close. - Canada Cup

To protect the public health - end the season now and award the Bruins the CUP.
It's the responsible thing to do. We don't care about no stinkin' asterix.

I agree that in this kind of thing it’s all pretty much smoke since nobody knows how many people are walking around sick but not exhibiting significant symptoms. I don’t know that we jump to this is being done to purposefully it’s just that viruses are hard to get specific handles on. This is especially true since there is so little testing that tells us what the real numbers actually are. |

Insurance companies and Banks taking it up the hoop today. Trading stopped in the US, TSX down 9.5%. This keeps up, there will be more deaths by suicide than by the virus.

My wife has accepted a new job, and due to conflict of interest rules (I have to change banks), I had to divest about $20,000 in old RRSPs I bought 100 years ago.
My old bank sold them last week, and mailed a cheque to my new bank (yeah, I find that hard to believe).
My new bank expects to receive the cheque Friday and reinvest.
It's the best financial move I have ever made. |
