NHL now holding another conference call, this one with team presidents around the league. Told it’s more about business end of things. Obviously huge impact with interruption of the season.

I was just thinking that this hockey shutdown is inconvenient for fans like myself. But what about people whose livelihood depends on covering it like Carol?

Hope you have some DJ gigs to keep you busy for the next little while C!

Thoughts from Mirtle:
That could mean relying on the standings, as of today, to choose 16 postseason teams and then having them play best-of-three or best-of-five series instead of best of seven. It could also mean a completely revamped playoff format, perhaps like the round-robin one the Danish league is adopting to make up for a compressed schedule.

I doubt the NHL would be very creative in its execution of playoffs, but I would be interested in an experimental version done for this year

I would think you can't have some teams making it in playing 71 games and others 69. They would have to take it back to a common denominator . Every team has 69 games played

I think it all hinges on play resuming in the next month, but a couple of play in games for the teams just out or having each team play up to 71 games is the most likely scenario.

There would need to be some correction obviously but for example Canucks would need to play 2 games, their next 2 opponents Ari/Col have played 70 and that would sort out those 3 teams.

i'm not disagreeing. i'm not worried about for myself per se. even if i get it, i'll be fine.

lots of people will be asymptomatic and it'll pass without them even knowing. it really isn't that dangerous.

...except for the vulnerable. that's why i'm worried. i've got a parent who is 70 and even at your low percentages, that worries me. that death rate is huge for a cold/flu type situation especially when we know that it spreads as fast.

so the precautions that i think everyone should take aren't necessarily for them (or ourselves), it's ensuring that it doesn't become widespread and hit the vulnerable.

- RealityChecker

That's the only thing that concerns me as well. I have a grandparent who is about to be 90 and multiple family members in their mid/late 60s

Yeah depending on when they resume, choosing the opponents would be somewhat interesting too. Going through LA and SJ caliber teams is a lot different than Dallas or Colorado

I don't think there is an easy answer, but I think points-percentage is probably easier than rolling back. Teams have earned their points, so it would be hard to say to Winnipeg that their last 2 games (and all player stats), which they won to get them WC1 spot are now vacated and they miss the playoffs

low mortality rate x high infection rate = lots of deaths.

we should ask our parents if they're comfortable with a 3-7% death rate.

- RealityChecker

It’s 18% not 3-7. The rate changes based on age

#Canucks announce Chris Tanev is week-to-week with a lower body injury.

I was told 3-5 weeks this morning but not confirmed.

Sounds like the knee.
