Ok its time to shut down everything in an area where there is a confirmed case.
Declare mandatory quarantine, close businesses, schools etc. Patrol the streets and arrest non essential personal traveling.
In fact a New York area has quarantined a neighborhood. Well there is a high number of cases. I get it for that area.
IMO officials would have been better off saying that yes larger groups of people bring a higher chance of coming in contact with an infected person. Judge for yourself if attending an event is what you want to do. If you are sick stay home.
If there is not a community infection happening then the chances of catching the virus is very low. Berate the CDC doctor for basically stating that very thing.
Obviously there is a higher chance to contract the virus where there is a higher concentration of people.
It's people like you who want to silence a differing view that are the problem. Explain to me where I stated that stopping large events is wrong. That was never my point. So go home hide in the closet and when the world stops being risky let us all know.
I'm well aware of what's going on. So the two doctors I talked to today who work where there was a confirmed case believed the hysteria by some was overblown.
The patient was sent home and told to stay home.
I shouldn't post on a public board about this? So, your on a board of a sports team who is playing a game that could be attended by thousands of people. Shouldn't they be condemned? Shouldn't all the fans the organization and the league be condemned for not suspending the game or at least closing the venues to fans?
Using your logic I'm waiting for the condemnation.

1. Of course the probability right now is low right you would get the virus no matter what you do. But actions are taken not just to address the present but also the future. Look at the trend, and where it is going. Look at what happened to those who did get the bug, especially the elderly.
After 9/11 - there were extreme measures implemented at airports, many of which are still there. Well the chances of being hijacked were very low even then. And they remain very low now, partly it is because of those measures.
2. You are wrong about quarantining areas only after there are outbreaks there. Read up how countries that have prevented or controlled the outbreaks have behaved. Read why there have not been any deaths in Germany. Read how Ebola was contained. What St. Louis did in the 1918 flu and what Philadelphia did not. Once the level of infection reaches 1% in the population, it is very difficult to impossible to stop a disease like that.
3. The CDC has not made any recommendations about large gatherings (to hold or cancel, attend or not) so that is a wash. It, and other related public health institutions are under
enormous political pressure to not say anything that could be seen as dire.
4. You laughed at the policy of restricting/banning large gatherings.
5. Regarding your point of letting people judge for yourself - that logic is flawed. Because the judger is not going to be the only one who bears the consequences. Its like drunk driving, not like gambling with your life savings.
6. There is no contradiction in posting this perspective on a hockey board, any more than arguing about high prices of season tickets, or putting protective glass to prevent pucks hitting the crowd, or improving padding in helmets or anything like that.
Your argument is flawed and ill-informed. It is fine if this was the flu. Its not.
