Kidding aside, amazed these Defenders were able to hang in with St. Louis.

The Vats trade is a boon. A healthy serviceable defender, a quality forward with some size and scoring touch and possibly a pick for a rental who might not play one game for Carolina. Almost makes up for that Ruutu trade. Almost.

Skinner has always been pretty good. It's an overpayment, but he's significantly better than he's playing this year.

When they traded for him it was great because they bought in low. Skinner is a good 25-30 goal/60 point guy, but the contract for that kind of player is too high. This year they have spent up to the cap and they are not good. At least they have a ton of players coming off the books, but even then they don't have good players coming through the system to replace.

Maybe placing blame on Skinner is unfair since what him and Eichel have to play around is really weak, but it's not like he's lighting it up and still losing.
