My Kool Aid tells me that this year is gonna be reverse Freddy, where he isn't great now, but he steals one or more Game 7s and is lights out in the playoffs. Future fact.

Hahah I said the same thing to my Nephew (Goalie coach) last week!

People just need to not female dog and moan so much. Did everyone for some reason think the Leafs would run the table the rest of the year. Its a 50/50 crap shoot every night this time of year. Everything is tight from top to bottom and only a few teams are having any success the last 10 or so, Boston, philly, Aves, Oils and Vegas. Only bout 5 or 6 teams out of the whole league.
Everyone else is more close to playing .500 hockey or worse. Leafs5-5-0, Caps4-5-1, Bolts5-5-0, Pens4-6-0, Islanders2-6-2, Stars5-2-3, Flames5-4-1, Columbus2-4-2, Canes4-4-2, Peg5-4-1 and the powerhouse Panthers3-6-1....

- Buck Norris

And all 6 of the pens losses are in a row.

Agreed. I've never quite been sold on Andersen being a clutch guy or upper echelon tender. He's prone to long, cold stretches where he is objectively terrible and can then go on some hot spells where he's lights out.

I fully admit that many great players can be inconsistent but Andersen's inconsistency is on another level.

I'd really like to see more of Campbell.

The thing I can't figure out is that a couple things seem obvious to me when he is on, and when he is off

1) Rebound control
2) Too Deep in net
3) overplaying everything and getting out of position

I don't know why he can't seem to be consistent. These are things that he knows how to do well, but doesn't always.

I think it is mental, and I think it is because he tries too hard and puts too much pressure on himself.

See, I think letting in a couple softies in a game 7, can make a whole team look bad.

... except that I also know that the Leafs were/are very young without nearly the playoff experience of the Bruins AND the Bruins were awesome in the playoffs last year.

- Aetherial

Not to pile on Babcock, but I don't think he had the team ready for that game 7. The Leafs were rattled after that game 6 loss at home, Babs could have had the team play more aggressive.

I agree on the game seven fails. I am pretty sure Freddy's next deal will not be with the Leafs. That extra year in Campbell's contract buys Leafs at least a year to find something better.
- winsix

Completely agreed.

Unless Freddie shows that he's capable of dialing it in when the Leafs need him most and showing that he can play with more consistency, I think his days may be numbered.

May be Babs... but we have a lot of evidence this year that this team can go completely off the rails in a big hurry. They get rattled way too easily.

He's also brutal at handling the puck outside of his crease.

When Freddie is on his game, he doesn't give up many rebounds and is square to the shooter. Who knows, maybe he does not trust the team in front of him.

I just don't see who we get who will help.

It almost feels like Goaltending these days is a complete crapshoot all the time.

Oh, I highly suspect that, but that doesn't absolve him of all blame.

When he is on his game, he looks very much like Price.

Big in the net, Squared up, minimal movement, but good positioning so that saves look easy.

True.

There isn't a goalie in the league I would be comfortable giving 8 million+ to.

Maybe Rask or Vasilevski, but they could sh!t the bed next year too.

Vasilevskiy is close to his avg. That surprises me.

Andersen .889 in 2020.
People have been careful to make the distinction of 2020, although his season overall isn't great either.

3 ahl dmen the a lot of nights during 2020.

Goaltending is hard to figure out some times. Every goalie has a stretch of bad games throughout the course of season. No goalie is perfect.

So, basically at the time when we need Andersen the most?

True, but him letting in softies has been very consistent this year.

Also, his numbers are close to Hutchinson who was handling most of the 2nd night of back to backs, Rielly not playing well all year, and significant injuries in the first couple months... and Babcock.

The team was and remains immature and lacks experience. Blame Babcock all you want but he's been in every single situation you can think of. He said everything he would have said to any other team but the message fell on deaf ears to a group so young and inexperienced.

There is no better replacement available and certainly not a free one or a cheaper one. If the Leafs give up on Andersen, they'll be even more (frank)ed than they already are.

Even healthy, they need him to be an average NHL Goalie, like every other NHL team.

Agreed.

Oh, another thing you can add to your list of failed rebuttal tactics... ridiculously overstating the opposite position to make it look unreasonable.

These are stupid, juvenile, arguing tactics. They don't fool anyone and they just serve to reinforce the narrative about you.
