I remember some saying it really hard to see them missing the playoffs now, even though we were nowhere close to a secure situation, now look at them, this season is falling apart faster than a Donnie boy date. - LeftCoaster
Before they fell apart like this it was, esp the way JM was playing at that point. I still think they make it myself. |

Funny how those 106-108 point predictions have disappeared - LordHumungous
When you're missing your best player and he's the goalchie, it's kind of tough.
If Markie were in net I think we'd have beat Toronto and Columbus. |

I would be surprised if Hughes misses a game. He seems to really want to win the rookie scoring race. |

I really hope they do, those guys deserve a shot at the post season. Miller, Markstrom and Horvat and been good this year, Pettersson as well but it's only his second year. The others have played so well they deserve some post season action. |

The Athletic did a predictive strength of schedule, and 3 of the 4 teams currently behind VAN have tougher schedules remaining (and VAN has games in hand on 2/4). I think they still make it, I just hope they dont end up a Wildcard team

No team on the rise should have cap issues, I don't care if the other 30 GM's are poor, I don't want ours to be...why is that so hard to understand.
Because the other kids in school are stupid it's ok if mine are too? What the (frank) kind of logic is that? - LeftCoaster
And yet based on proof & facts they mostly all do - it has nothing to do with being a poor GM or a lemming. I'm not saying its right but just bcus you don't like it doesn't mean its Wrong either. It's not hard to understand but clearly hard for some to accept. And this comparison to school is so fawking stupid and off the mark it makes no sense.
What about your beloved Flyers!!! They're in a WAY worse situation. 11mil to sign Patrick, Lindblom, Hagg, Myers and a goalie plus 3-5 UFAs. The grass ain't greener league wide, its an unwatered, mid summer, slightly burnt brown-ish color. |

I prefer to win my bet with my buddy and have them finish higher in standings than the Oilers. But Wildcard or not, i just want them to get in this year and see what it is like. If JM and Brock are back by then, I could see us beating any team we face in the first round. |

I think when people see "cap issues" they are thinking of Chicago's massive cap dump spree when they couldn't afford players. Canucks are obviously not in that position, but the current pay structure, particularly at forward, is wildly inefficient.
The good news, is that with the core pieces they have, they will always be competitive for the next decade. Whether they can make good value decisions to get them into elite, who knows. They do need to shed that bottom-6F money though - WhiteLie
Long term they're fine, it's just in the short term they have some issues because of Benning's cap mismanagement. |

I want to agree but really when Marky was healthy we were barely .500 over his last 10 games. Injuries will happen at the most inopportune times gotta get through them. |

That's not true at all, about 1/3 of the teams have issues going forward, "mostly all do" is a complete exaggeration. You'd have to look at each individual team to see what their situation is and WHO they need to re-sign as opposed to how many they have to re-sign, what flexibility they have to add, if they can take on some cap for draft picks, etc. etc. etc.
As for the Flyers, they have 12 million dollars to sign eight players, but it's who they have to sign as all of their core players and almost all their young players are already signed. Not to mention Dave Scott is in a perennial win-now mode.
Patrick, Lindblom, Hagg and Aube-Kubel need contracts, that's not going to break your cap situation. |

Next year Vancouver will have 18mil to spend and that ranks them with the 11th most $$$ so if you say we have cap problems (I do) then 2/3 of the league do as well. Not an exaggeration AT ALL by your/our metric. Of course you have to factor in who NEEDS/WANTS/RFA/UFA to be resigned and you can include some other teams into that category as well. Point being 2/3rds of the league have tough decisions/moves to make to comply within a cap system.
But opposite the norm - Buffalo have been "building" with top 10 picks the last 7 years - 2 #2 OA and a #1 OA and now about the miss the POs for the 9th straight year. 30 mil in cap space and they need to restructure their entire team (16 roster/contracts spots to fill) I don't envy that one fawking bit. |
