Ugh, no, its you who has it wrong.....his salary is $3.2 mill not 2.2. The Canucks save $1 mill with him in the minors this year......know your CBA....

Thus its a TOTAL savings of about $1.6 against the cap - it maybe $600k less than this year but in TOTAL its $1.6.

Whats to stop them from burying someone else in the minors saving them the same $1 mill that they are saving on SB this year....

- chompsey

Your takes are about as useful as nipples on an earth worm. If they don’t buy him out, he goes to the minors and they save $1m. The net difference is only about $500k. But, then they get hit with $800 the following year, so at the end of the day it costs them more..:

Hope so. If playoffs are cancelled all teams would fail to qualify and we wouldn’t be losers

Would we keep our pick or would NJ get it?

We keep it if we don’t qualify. It would automatically defer to next year

Is it hard being an incel? I get that with your personality, its difficult to get with the ladies, but surely, some lonely, fractured woman with a lazy eye would overlook your glaring deficiencies.....no? Didn't think so...

Go fuck yourself, you shit stain of an inbred kumquat....

The point is, there is this narrative that JB is the worst GM in the league, cant do anything right yada yada...

Reality is, that its a common problem that is occurring throughout the league - the grass is not greener with a different GM, so shut your fucking piehole and enjoy your team. Its been a fun season and next year promises to be even better.

It cant all be about tanking or Stanley Cup...as if there was no middle ground. Only 1 team wins, everyone else loses. And as Edmonton has proved, tanking doesnt get you a cup.....

- chompsey

Theyve also proved, yet again, it does get you two of the best players in the league and for sure a shot at winning soon. Oilers will be fine, just need to build the back end. I don’t think any team in the league wants to play thise two in the post season no matter how bad the D and goalie is. I laughed when they picked up mike green though.

Hall wasn't one of the best players in the league while in EDM. RNH definitely wasn't and neither was Yakupov. Where would they be if they didn't get McDavid? As good as Drai is, they would be back near the bottom if they didn't also have McDavid.

EDIT: Where would they be if Buf took Drai and they got Reinhart instead? Tanking gives you a better chance at a top player, but not guaranteed. Even top 3 picks can be busts.Alexis Lafreniere is going #1 and he id not guaranteed to be the best player in the draft. Look at Hughes and Kakko, neither are lighting it up this year, look at Patrick and Hischier. Tanking is NOT A GUARANTEED WAY TO SUCCESS. How many top 5 picks does Boston have? St.Louis?

Could games being cancelled due to a bad flu epidemic be on the horizon?
- Bettmanhatesus

No. It's just a distraction. More people die of regular flu than this so-called "pandemic" flu...

They have 21 million next year and all their star players signed, we have 18 million with two of our three best players on ELC's and no starting goaltender. I just think think they're in a better position than we are if we need to add for the playoffs next year and then re-sign said player. We have cap issues, which we shouldn't for a team on the rise.
- LeftCoaster

They have 3 of 4 --Mac and Ranta - Landa comes off the next/same year they have to sign Maker - can they do both? or the Same problem that we'll have. They have more RFA's that need to be signed too and they won't be cheap OR expendable.

BTW who are all these teams on rise that don't have cap issues like us? Cus here's a few that come to mind (not cherrypicking - this is based on where they've been drafting in the past 5 years - similar to us - and their cap situations next year.

Carolina? 8mil cap - 6 roster spots + fill some other contracts, Svech/Necas to sign year after.
Edmonton? 12mil - 4 RFAs, 6 UFA to fill
Buffalo? - 30mil cap space - 14 contracts/spots to fill. Eichel, Skinner, Johansson, Risto signed long term and now they basically have to build a new team around. them. Tons of $ but A LOT of change needed which doesn't = success.
Arizona? less that Mil in cap space - 6 players to sign (not including HALL)
NYR - 14mil - 7 players include Strome/DeAngelo.

Daliwal is an idiot. It has nothing to do with Barrie (he is just fluffing agents again). It’s whether or not Loui wants to ride busses for two years when 95% of his contract has been paid
- CanuckDon

No Don, wrong again. Dhaliwal is one of the better journo’s around.

So, my premise is, the Canucks could bury another salary, say Jordie Benn and save that same $1 mill OR even Loui Erickson while they save $1.6 mill on SB's salary.

If you factor these 2 conditions, than you save SB's buyout, $1.6 mill next year. Its a $600k savings on his current situation but a total of $1.6 mill if you satisfy those 2 conditions. Which I see playing out.

My apologies for not being clear.....

So? They tanked and got two of the best centers in the league. What if a unicorn put it’s horn up your chute? Doesn’t matter, cause it’s fantasy not reality. Reality isens, hawks, kings and now oil/leafs/buf have tanked for elite talent. Is it the only way to build a team? Hell no, but it’s worked out for then pretty well

No team on the rise should have cap issues, I don't care if the other 30 GM's are poor, I don't want ours to be...why is that so hard to understand.

Because the other kids in school are stupid it's ok if mine are too? What the (frank) kind of logic is that?

I remember some saying it really hard to see them missing the playoffs now, even though we were nowhere close to a secure situation, now look at them, this season is falling apart faster than a Donnie boy date.

Saying jp barry gets teams into poopty cap situations with his clients is not exactly being a mouth piece for agents

I think when people see "cap issues" they are thinking of Chicago's massive cap dump spree when they couldn't afford players. Canucks are obviously not in that position, but the current pay structure, particularly at forward, is wildly inefficient.

The good news, is that with the core pieces they have, they will always be competitive for the next decade. Whether they can make good value decisions to get them into elite, who knows. They do need to shed that bottom-6F money though
