I was wrong, they currently have 30 million, I'm talking this years outlook for the next season.
Canucks have 5 million, according to cap friendly.
https://www.capfriendly.com/ - LeftCoaster
of which 22.5mil is IR and 3.5 is buried so really it's 5mil. Maybe To sign an NCAA guy in time for the playoffs? that's gonna make a big difference...
and how does it change the fact they'll have less $ next year to sign more contracts than us? |

You're right, that's for this season, not next, but still, that's an incredible situation to be in to add, if they wanted to, to contend. - LeftCoaster
That's only based on their LTIR numbers and being below the cap for most of the year. They actually have about 5 mill in space, but since it's the end of the season that number gets inflated a huge amount. |

This isn’t actually accurate. He’s already in the minors, with just over $1m in Cap savings. Buying him out only saves the team about $500k I think, but they give it right back the following season with an $800k second year.
Still, it’s a positive for next season. - 1970vintage
You obviously understand math.👍 |

No, the savings are somewhere around what I posted.
His cap hit currently is 2.29, as he is in minors, subtract the capfriendly number from that and you get somewhere around the number I posted.
Obviously math isn't your strong point.😁 - Reubenkincade
Ugh, no, its you who has it wrong.....his salary is $3.2 mill not 2.2. The Canucks save $1 mill with him in the minors this year......know your CBA....
Thus its a TOTAL savings of about $1.6 against the cap - it maybe $600k less than this year but in TOTAL its $1.6.
Whats to stop them from burying someone else in the minors saving them the same $1 mill that they are saving on SB this year.... |

What does another teams poopty management have to do with the Canucks? This is the worst excuse ever. “I know you are but what am I”? - 1970vintage

The point is, there is this narrative that JB is the worst GM in the league, cant do anything right yada yada...
Reality is, that its a common problem that is occurring throughout the league - the grass is not greener with a different GM, so shut your f ucking piehole and enjoy your team. Its been a fun season and next year promises to be even better.
It cant all be about tanking or Stanley Cup...as if there was no middle ground. Only 1 team wins, everyone else loses. And as Edmonton has proved, tanking doesnt get you a cup..... |

They have 21 million next year and all their star players signed, we have 18 million with two of our three best players on ELC's and no starting goaltender. I just think think they're in a better position than we are if we need to add for the playoffs next year and then re-sign said player. We have cap issues, which we shouldn't for a team on the rise.

So if a salary, after being sent to minors is 2.29 against the cap, and a buyout is a cap hit of 1.76, it somehow becomes a cap savings of 1.6 million....okay.

Hope so. If playoffs are cancelled all teams would fail to qualify and we wouldn’t be losers |

Jb has a plan we just don't know exactly, we can speculate though, that's what fans do, I think we will move some vets and inject some youth into those spots. |

I think they need to be behind the wildcard to play with some urgency, that's what they need to do, I saw some good sign's of it in Columbus for 55 minutes. |

So, my premise is, the Canucks could bury another salary, say Jordie Benn and save that same $1 mill OR even Loui Erickson while they save $1.6 mill on SB's salary.
If you factor these 2 conditions, than you save SB's buyout, $1.6 mill next year. Its a $600k savings on his current situation but a total of $1.6 mill if you satisfy those 2 conditions. Which I see playing out.
My apologies for not being clear..... |

They were fantastic for 90% of the game. They win the next one or odds will be looking pretty slim. I’m starting to focus on the draft again |
