Yep, I'm sure we'll see a good team iced again but Toffoli is my biggest worry. Will be a huge disappointment if He isn't resigned. - belcherbd
If you can’t re-sign your best or better players because you have too many poor players under contract, while you were trying to find a diamond in the rough, you’ve got cap issues....even if you’re compliant.
Limiting moves, signings, contracts or anything of that sort means you’re mismanaging the cap. |

Thats the fun part isn't it? Shi tting on the local GM for cap issues when literally half the league has them.
JB's learning curve, unfortunately, has been steep. It's going to set them back a bit, but, I do think they come out of it with not a lot of hardship. Even positive armchair GM's see possibilities for solutions that don't set the team back. It's the negative armchair GM's that can't let it go.
As you said, they'll be compliant because they have to be. Does it cost them a Kole Lind or a Jack Rathbone? Maybe. Does it stop the team from progressing? Absolutely not. I think the future looks bright. We can all admit LE was a HUGE mistake in a cap system. There will be a lot of factors in play this summer that will ultimately affect how management moves forward. I dont see TT on the team next year. My gut tells me that his desire to play elsewhere will be more influential than $$$$$ and frankly, I think the Canucks dodge a bullet if he does.....do we really want another LE situation?
I think focusing on the negative BS is likely more to fulfill the need for drama and personal shortcomings. |

I give two (frank)s about what the other teams GM’s do, except in Philly, although I will use them as an example (other teams), what I care about is our GM and our team.
Most of the teams with cap issues are contending teams, not the middle of the road teams like ours. |

If you can’t poop on your teams GM what have you got? Not many fans pay such close attention to other teams as to be able to poop on them regularly. There are the obvious “he’s an idiot” moves but mostly we over react to our team, players and managers. Like with Green, Stecher, JV, Demko etc. lots of other teams would love to have our problems I’m sure |

Yes Toronto is, they have issues with injuries and defence but they're a good team...SJ - they thought they were after a 101 point season last year....Panthers - new coach so the GM and owner threw some money at their lineup to please him.
Look, anyone who uses Florida or Arizona in their debate about money and or cap issues is really reaching, that said, there's lot of team's that spend to the cap but aren't generally ones who've finished at the bottom of the league for five of six of the past seasons.
A rising team should have a rosy cap situation with tons of ELC's on their books. |

Dhaliwal had an interesting piece on the Athletic talking about Loui. Essentially said that his Agent Barrie has had a number of these players who sign big deals which end up riding out their contracts in the minors. Alzner and Ladd been the latest.
His feeling is Barrie won't be bullied into walking away from contracts. - belcherbd
Daliwal is an idiot. It has nothing to do with Barrie (he is just fluffing agents again). It’s whether or not Loui wants to ride busses for two years when 95% of his contract has been paid |

Joe Sakic has 20 million in cap space THIS YEAR and he’s got one of the best young teams in hockey. That’s managing your cap well. One bad contract, Loui Eriksson, shouldn’t cause you inexcusable cap issues, almost every team has one, it’s the half dozen other contracts to poor players that’s the issue which will present them with issues next year. - LeftCoaster
Um NO. He has about 5mil - There's 22 mil currently on the IR and another 4mil-ish buried/retained. Plus with bonuses over into next year they'll be right in the same boat as us. For 20-21 - 18mil to sign 7 RFA's including Jost, Burakovski, Nichkushkin, Zadorov and 4-5 UFA's. Same sh1t, different garden.
There's 16 teams (us) that are compliant bcus of LTIR, then another handful that are right up against the cap, then a few that are comfortable. #excuses |

There is no rule saying they have to sign Markstrom Tanev Jake. This is a choice not a rule.
They could go with Demko and Domingue next year but is that what you want.
It is beyond stupid that a bunch of armchair GMs think that real people involved with the team can't figure out how to be cap compliant.
Like I said I am willing to take all bets of anyone who thinks this team will not be cap compliant next year. - VANTEL
Maybe #teamwhiner could comment on the other 16 NHL teams facing 'cap issues' in the next few years lol |

The AV’s have the luxury of having a top 5 player playing for scraps. Most valuable contract in the league |

I was wrong, they currently have 30 million, I'm talking this years outlook for the next season.
Canucks have 5 million, according to cap friendly.

They have 30 mill prorated for this season... ie they could take on a 30 mill contract right now until the end of this season. They aren't running with a 51.5 million cap situation
Their project cap hit for next season is $60,029,762, the Canucks' $63,499,872. |
|
|
|
His savings are 1.6 mil this year if they buy him out in june
https://www.capfriendly.c...or/sven-baertschi#results - VANTEL
No, the savings are somewhere around what I posted.
His cap hit currently is 2.29, as he is in minors, subtract the capfriendly number from that and you get somewhere around the number I posted.
Obviously math isn't your strong point.😁 |

You're right, that's for this season, not next, but still, that's an incredible situation to be in to add, if they wanted to, to contend. |
