He did for most of the game but also let in some weak 3rd period goals. Gonna be a tough call for Green lol
- LordHumungous

I'd go with Demko. LD instilled no confidence. Demko, has, at least shown to steal the odd game...

Doubt it’s a tough call. Demko would have to go Tommy Salo to lose the net.

Made the mistake of opening a bottle of Glefiddych 50 year old whiskey apparently worth a few dollars..
Man is it good.

Only time I've seen a 50 yr old Glenfiddich, it was around $35k, so I'm going to guess you either got swindled or are richer than Don.

I thought there weren't any cap problems? They're compliant, right?
- Marwood

They are compliant .

Tell me do you wish they keep Sven or try to sign Toffoli .

There is a big difference between in Cap Trouble and wanting to Upgrade.

They could go with the exact same scenario as this year and be cap compliant but is that what you reallt really really want?

BTW I am willing to bet you 500 dollars any time you want that they will be cap compliant this coming year and the next one after that.

No they couldn’t, several players will command pay increases. And no, I would rather see them upgrade, which will cost more. Buying out Sven will alleviate some of the problem. Giving up something significant to get rid of Lui is probably the next best move. Having cap problems doesn’t mean there aren’t solutions, but there are many more roadblocks to accomplish what you want when there is so much dead space to deal with.

I thought Baertschi's Salary is going to Markstrom?

I'm curious how we can have the same cap structure as this year, how do you get Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli, Virtanen, Gaudette etc. to agree to an extension without a salary increase.

You are right though, they will be compliant, the question is what sacrifices do they need to make to do so.

Someone and ? won't be here next season.
- VanHockeyGuy

Yup, that seems like the obvious one to me with the way Benning pumps up his AHL depth but Quinn also seems to be making a case for his return.

I think we see one of the big 3 not signed, a buyout and a trade giving up an asset to move salary.

There is no rule saying they have to sign Markstrom Tanev Jake. This is a choice not a rule.

They could go with Demko and Domingue next year but is that what you want.

It is beyond stupid that a bunch of armchair GMs think that real people involved with the team can't figure out how to be cap compliant.

Like I said I am willing to take all bets of anyone who thinks this team will not be cap compliant next year.

Is it really a sacrifice if they let go of Sven Sutter or Roussel?

I'm thinking...:

- Buyout (hopefully trade) Sven
- Trade Sutter for a bag of pucks (retain a mill if need be)
- Loui LTIR or retired or lost in the woods who cares
- Benn traded
- Leivo walks (though I'd rather trade Rous and keep him for the 3rd line)
- Ferland a big question mark to whether he plays again

Don’t be such a female dog. You said they could roll out the same lineup next year and I’m saying (as is Belchy) that they couldn’t. You are drawing a line suggesting people think that the team having cap problems can’t see that there are solutions. That’s wrong.

The cap problem is that the team’s options are diminished because of the cost of getting rid of the Erikssons of the world. I have zero doubt that the team will have a full roster and be under the salary cap. I do have a doubt that they will be able to improve what they have now AND be under the cap, unless they move a first or whatever the cost is to trade Lui.

Those moves won't cut it alone and I don't think you can move Sutter without another asset.

Hard to upgrade when your cap is maxed by sh*tty contracts. It not only about being compliant, it's using the money wisely, like not having the most expensive bottom 6 in the league.

His savings are 1.6 mil this year if they buy him out in june

https://www.capfriendly.c...or/sven-baertschi#results

- VANTEL

This isn’t actually accurate. He’s already in the minors, with just over $1m in Cap savings. Buying him out only saves the team about $500k I think, but they give it right back the following season with an $800k second year.

Still, it’s a positive for next season.

Dhaliwal had an interesting piece on the Athletic talking about Loui. Essentially said that his Agent Barrie has had a number of these players who sign big deals which end up riding out their contracts in the minors. Alzner and Ladd been the latest.

His feeling is Barrie won't be bullied into walking away from contracts.

Just because you're compliant, you have to be, doesn't mean you don't have any cap issues, they clearly do.

Yep, I'm sure we'll see a good team iced again but Toffoli is my biggest worry. Will be a huge disappointment if He isn't resigned.
