I'm pretty sure at first he was just a fan and he'd always end up on the jumbo screen dancing. Usually entertaining and amusing since he was a little over-weight. Then the Flyers gave him a chance and he lost a ton of weight. He was our in-arena content guy. I think he already was being replaced by the lovely Andrea Helfrich because when you google the guy it just says Philadelphia Wings' announcer and nothing Flyers related.

Team is probably better off. I'm sure the guy is nice and probably didn't mean what he said, but you kinda had to know in a sport where a decent chunk of the players are of that dissent it wouldn't go over well. It would be like someone in hockey talking about French Canadians.

Did the Wings come afterwards or before he worked for the Flyers. Kinda curious how he got the other jobs.

So the Wings are strange. They existed in Philly for a long, long time. They then were relocated in like 2012 or 2014. We brought them back in 2018 so his affiliation with the Wells Fargo Center and Flyers likely helped with the Wings gig

Why does it not surprise me he's from Washington Township? I don't know how many Ranger fans are still lurking, but anyone familiar with South Jersey knows that's a privileged area that thinks way too highly of themselves. At least the yuppies in Cherry Hill can say they have the mall, Washington township is nothing but Walmarts and Applebees I swear.

wish tonight's game was in NYC and Sunday's in Philly. For whatever reason. Have seen the movie of the Flyers playing away at MSG on national TV before.

The entire metro is going to be desperate. Really even the Pens aren't locked in the playoffs if you think about it. These games are going to be nuts.

That would be hilarious! Perhaps that's why there was no name associated with the police report for Gritty...

Not sure of the record, but it seems like MSG has been a house of horrors for the Flyers for a while now.

Haha, I still have not seen Gritty or Shawny side by side....

Also Shawny kinda disappeared once Gritty came on the scene. It makes perfect sense!

Enough about your old arena announcer
- 2sticks1puck

Lou Nolan has been the arena announcer since they were at the Spectrum. Whom are you thinking of? The dancing PR guy who was a Soul or Wings announcer? Shawn was fired immediately.

If he were supplying any kind of offense I would agree. But since he is most definitely not, his below average defense becomes much more pronounced.
- MBFlyerfan

I know it’s not everything. But the year he put up 65 points wasn’t he like a minus 17 to 20.

HOLY poop DROP THE PUUUUUCK!!!

Everything about this home and home is perfect. Playoff race, two hottest teams, it’s the WHOLE WEEKEND!!!

After all the old time (read: 80’s) Rangers/Flyers talk yesterday I have been watching so much poop from that rivalry back then on YouTube.

Also getting started on constructing a Zezel “throwback” from some old eBay scores. Seriously FRANK the Rangers.

LETS GO_fly_ERS!!!!

Besides the point that would be out of bounds, I was a toddler when that happened. I'd rather keep to my watching time lol

Avery was actually pretty good skilled player. All teams and the league hated him bc of his antics. Never dirty just a pain. He should have showcased his skill more.

He was nothing special, bottom 6 guy, nothing great about his game. His numbers show an even worse portrayal of his game .
