This is one of the reasons I was against spending big $ to keep him. As much as I hate the shootout, and as much as I wish this wasn’t the case, it is a part of today’s game...and with the margin between playoff teams and non-playoff teams being so thin, it’s actually a reasonably big part of the game.
While the 3 on 3 OT has helped to mitigate the impact of shootouts in the standings somewhat, it still occurs often enough that you can’t afford to have a guy that doesn’t give you at least a 50/50 chance to “earn” the extra point.
Plus, he seems like a giant D-bag to me. - Ogilthorpe2
Lehner this year was 1W 3L in the SO, saving 3 of 10 shots.
Lehner career is 9W 23L, saving 51 of 99 shots = .515 = 58th of this seasons 62 goalies.
Crawford this season - 2W 1 L, saving 6 of 10 shots = 36th out of 62.
Crawford career 33W 24L, saving 139 out of 195 = .713 = 31st out of 62.
Rankings are a bit skewed because of some goalies having a small sample size of SO opportunities. |

He's a guy I would like to keep but only at a reasonable rate due to his concussion issues. Last thing we need is another guy taking up a bunch of cap stuck on IR. We already have two guys going into next year we'll have to worry about in de Haan and Shaw (possible Crow too if he resigns) - Savetheembers33
He shouldn't really cost all that much. Averages about 12 mins per night and has 0.37PPG. They'll check the comps and he should be a good guy to keep on the team. |

I agree. All I’m saying is you won’t likely truly replace him, and what he does, without spending at least as much as it will cost to re-up him here. The only way he gets replaced for less is if Stan gets lucky on an entry level contract rookie. But I don’t really see anyone like him “in the system”. |

I’m not so sure I’d lump Caggiula in with the “easily replaced” crowd. While he’s certainly not untouchable, replacing his combination of speed, skill, and grit without spending a significant amount of money is a tall order IMO. He’s not a world beater, but he does a lot of things very well and likely won’t cost too much to keep around. - Ogilthorpe2
Agree. If he does not require much of a raise, it is hard to find someone who can play up and down your line up (either wing or center), kill penalties, has speed, plays physical, sees the ice, is a 200' player. Also he brings it every shift every night. Winning teams need players like him. Like Shaw, playing that way with his smaller size is a risk. But it is a risk I would take. He is only 25, so a lot of tread left if he can avoid concussions. |

i wonder how much the shoot out thing had to do with Lehner and this also impacts his play on breakaways during the game. He is just so bad with both and Crow is tremendous at both. If there is a breakaway during game...i feel like Crow saves it majority of the time and with Lehner, very good chance a goal is scored. I have to believe that went into the calculus - glennjpawlak22
No Shootouts in the playoffs though. |

True but he will want to get somewhat of an increase.

Exactly. He would be a guy I would like to see in that 11th-13th forward grouping. He's the kind of guy you win with for sure. |

Like autism there is a mental health spectrum and everyone is on it somewhere. - paulr
I know a man with mental issues. His name is Joel Quennville and the appearances of a complete meltdown are more evident with every game he watches goaltender Bobo and his defencemen. Jeez are they horrific.
The Hawks need a transfer to the Atlantic Division. They are a playoff team with that group of teams. |

Anton Forsberg with the start in net tonight.
How does Rod Brind’Amour feel about that?

It's sad when Hockeybuzz bloggers and posters can identify, and offer solutions, to problems before the team's head coach recognizes the same problems and makes changes.

Shot attempts: 62-44 TB
Shots on goal: 38-27 TB
5-on-5 scoring chances: 19-11 TB
5-on-5 high danger chances: 6-2 CHI
Interesting and telling, but do they have a stat that breaks down "getting pinned in your own end for an entire period"? |

Unfortunately for you, I think the tea leaves are saying that Colliton at least gets to start next year behind the bench. Maybe if one of the bigger fish out there make an overture about taking over the Hawks something gets done, but it seems like they are going to pay out the string with this guy. |

Ek's posts are usually worthless, like the Toews & Keith to LAK for Doughty and Kopitar.
But I did enjoy this from today:
Collective record of teams that were buyers at the deadline: 5-13-3
Collective record of deadline sellers: 6-4-1 |

Yeh, you are correct, I'm guessing he starts the season as HC as well.
The upside is I'm sure he'll be a much better coach in his 3rd NHL season. |

Yeah - but look at the HDSC - they gave up a lot of shots, but only 2 in the HD area. They protected Crawford fairly well. |

I know you’re being sarcastic, but we expect young players to improve year to year, so is it really that unreasonable to expect a young coach to do the same? Fingers crossed, because I think we’re stuck with him for a little while yet. |

Lehner is also bad on breakaways - which there are in the playoffs - huge momentum swing saves or goals. |

Crow should stay. Yes find a capable backup but if the team is remotely thinking playoffs Crawford gives them their best chance. This is his team!! Glad to have him. - kwolf68
Totally agreed. Corey has repeatedly proven haters wrong.
He’s got the best save percentage and GA across top hawk goalies all time. And when there’s more at stake, he elevated his game.
The core has a few years left, crow gives us the best chance until they’re gone.
He may be one injury away but so is everyone else.
He may be older, but his technique is top notch and makes up for any decrease in reaction time.
He rose to the challenge of Lehner and proved he’s the guy. |

Fair point, but they cannot sustain that kind of performance. Again, the 3rd period was very good. The second one was where they need to go to school and not let it happen. |

Subban has been brutal this season. Here are a few tidbits of information on him this year. In brackets I will put his rank among goalies with 10 games or more.
36.8% QS PCT (57th out of 62)
-10.37 GSAA (54th out of 62)
.890 Save PCT (56th out of 62)
3.18 GAA (53rd out of 62)
Subban is going to have to have a big time turn-around in order to stick with the Hawks next year. The only reason he has the backup job right now is because it seems pointless to bring Delia up. Might as well let Delia finish out the season in Rockford and get him ready for training camp next season. - Hawks_49
I haven't seen him play really, but if you read the Second City piece it provides some context to the numbers and the guy that wrote the piece covers both the Hawks and has covered the Knights...so who knows.
