Worrying about Marner is a waste of time. Next season he'll probably get 120 points. He's the (frank)ing shizznit. He's a Leaf. Dig it.

One more goal by William and Garnie has to change his location to Nylander Lover. I should have put cash on that wager.

Even if marner didnt miss time i think matthews would still be leading the team in points.

As for tavares goals being down, im sure the hand injury played a part moreso than not being with marner. Even when he came back he was struggling with his shot and at times handling the puck.

That said marner at his cap hit is more valuablr than nylander. Though....nylander does lead the team in gwgs lol.

He will get 100 for sure if healthy. Should be interesting to see if either him or matthews can take down gilmours point record.

“So why not poop on Tavares? He's making 11 a year and his goals are way down from last year (not playing with Marner anymore, big surprise) His points aren't all that great either if you're holding him to that 11 million per year standard. He gets plenty of PP time and zero PK time.”

Last Season - Marner with Tavares

Tavares
9 more goals & 2 more points more than career highs - playing with Marner

Marner
4 more goals & 21 more assists & 25 more points than his highs - playing with Tavares

Nylander has closed the gap. My favourite part is that they're both Leafs.

I feel like Marner can get more points because assists are easier to get. Matthews will be crushing Leaf goal records.

Marner > Nylander

Nylander @ 6.9 > Marner @ 10.9

Oh, and Matthews >> Marner

Narrowed the gap. I'd still take Marner. Nylander is looking like a great pick though.

Tavares no Marner: 37
Tavares with Marner: 47
Tavares back again with no Marner: 26 (on pace for 36 over 82 games)

Pretty clear. Marner helps Tavares score 10 more goals. At least.

Matthews 37 in 68 games last year. 44 in 65 this year. That's 7 more goals in 3 fewer games.

Difference? Marner.

Tavares in 2012-2013 had 28 goals in 48 games. That’s a 47 goal over 82 game pace. In the 2013-2014 season he had 66 points in 59 games - 91 point pace.

No Marner.

Matthews has lead the league in EV goals since entering the league. This is his 4th season, first playing predominantly with Marner.

Seems like all three are elite players who are capable of making other elite players better. Then there’s Baelander who is on pace for 37 goals and 74 points (over 82 games).

Would have been 57 goal pace if Marner was there.

Matthews career high? With Marner. Fact.

Seems like Nylander has been getting help from Matthews and Tavares. Great time to pump his value and get a good D for him while everybody forgets the 7 goal season he had last year.

Marner is killing penalties, the others are not. Right away, that's a big plus in the defense category. He's out there breaking up plays, creating SH chances and even blocking some shots. 2nd on the team in takeaways but nobody ever mentions that. All while being more than a PPG player.

If that's an "off" year, he's going to blow your socks off when he has a big year and 10.8 won't look so bad.

- JohnFergusonJr

The guy is still a ppg player. And there's what? 30 in the league? He also is never a defensive liability. Your criticism is foolish. Gtf outta here

Tavares has been on the ice for 62 EV goals against, -3. He's no defensive wizard by any stretch. To say he's never a defensive liability is laughable.

There's plenty of PPG players and not all of them make 11 million a year. I'm not saying Tavares is a bad player. I'm saying if somebody is going to poop on Marner for his play because of his contract, they should be poopting on Tavares too if they're using the same criteria and aren't being bias.

Probably. Marner > Okposo or whoever he was playing with.

Yes. And Marner is having a career year with Matthews...just like he had a career year with Tavares last year...

Because Marner makes other elite players better and vice versa, unlike Nylander last year.

Liljegren -2 in 5:41 of ice time...
- Steven_Seagull

All 3 goals were on Andersen. Not sure how liljegren gets screwed when Marincin and Andersen were so so bad early on.

Mathhews best player tonight.

Then Hyman, then nylander.

Yup he’s been easily the most consistent guy all year. Matthews was physical and lead the game tonight.
