I did a Google search of jay zwaski and Bowman and nothing came up. Can you provide a link? It's unlikely the team would give him an extension and not have a press conference.

Here you go, Francis.

"That said, I wouldn’t get my hopes up for Bowman losing his job. Bowman signed a two-year contract extension last June, according to a report from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. When asked back then about the possible extension, Bowman refused to comment, and the story went away. My recent conversations with sources have indicated what Friedman reported previously."

Could not agree with this more .I was a big Q basher the last couple of years of his tenure ,and try to stay positive about His replacement .JC has just not cut the mustard rushed into the job way way to early ,and that on Stan .Time to cut bait on both hope JC can find some work else were and maybe get back to the show . Stan and his Dad can spend some time in the sun playing checkers or something .
Bring in experience coach maybe Gerald Gallant and I love to see Mark Hunter take over the GM chair ,think Toronto are kicking themselves for letting him go .
Come on Rockey time to step up make some big moves to get this train back on track .

Apparently, I'm one of the few people who has been pleasantly surprised with Nylander's recent play. His positioning, D and backchecking have improved quite a bit over the last couple of months playing on "defensive" lines. I'm with TC in saying that I would like to see him get more top 6 time.

He has been one of the better players getting the puck out of our zone and entering the opponent's. Put him on a line with more skilled players and that should translate into more chances.

I think we all agree that the Hawks are rebuilding or retooling. So why all the caterwauling about the coach? Would Lavy or Gallant make them Cup contenders? I think not. Would they get more wins? Probably. What good would that do? None. But it would get the team a lower draft position.

Great write up TC. Play the kids for the rest of the season where they project for their career, let’s see what we got. That means Nylander in top six, Dach centering Kane, Boqvist running the PP, etc.

Agreed. Mitel looks clueless and Brookbank is okay.

When they interview them during the game, they look like they won the lotto and don't know how to act. Maybe their shy and not used to the publicity but its also possible they're not qualified for their role.

I would like to get a look at Marc Crawford as the HC.

How about Chelios as the GM and Crawford or Roenick as the HC.

- catrisc

So you don't like Colliton, one reason (I would guess) being that he has had very little experience as coach, but are OK with two ex-players who have NO experience at the positions your recommending them for?

Let me see if I understand this. You don't like Mittell (2 L's BTW) or Brookbank because they may not be qualified and you then suggest Chris Chelios who's FO experience consisted of getting Ken Holland's coffee in Detroit for a couple of years and Jeremy Roenick who has zero experience as a head coach or assistant coach?

Oh boy.

Funny - but it's worked, no?

I think they have 4 PP goals since putting him in that position - one by him (or off of him) - he's one of the few Hawks who understands that going to the net means getting in front of the goalie, not standing to the side so the goalie gets a good view of the shot.

I think from that position, he can slide up and down the slot - providing an alternative for Kane in the position where (IMO) his best shot has always been.

- StLBravesFan

There were a few other concurrent changes, including Gus gone, Keith to the point and Kubalik to the side opposite Kane.

The image I have is of the NASH game, with DCat standing in front of Rinne, trying to screen him, and Pekka just looking over his head.

I can see that.

I really like Highmore as a bottom 6 guys. Ever since I watched him in Rockford, I always thought, "that's a guy I would want on my line" because the guy is relentless and hunts pucks down like a mofo.

To be honest, I think he replaces Caggiula next year as that ball of energy (although I wouldn't be opposed with both of them on the roster).

Everything they do from here on out needs to be with next year in mind. Toews-Dach-Strome needs to be your top three centers. Idc what they numbers say about Strome. They only way he's going to be able to get to his potential is by playing and learning. Playing him with Cat and whoever else is only going to make that easier. Let the kids play on the backend consistently as well. Boqvist and Carlsson need to be playing just about every game (save for the game or two you wanna give to help them recover and continue to be effective). If Mitchell can be signed that would be perfect. The only way we'll see the Defense improve is if we see chemistry built with the guys (obviously better players too but good chemistry can make good players better).

By the end of this season, if the Hawks want ANY chance of sniffing the Playoffs next year, better have a good idea of who most of the guys they will be counting on next year. We cannot have tons of question marks.

Lots of Tank points available tonight if we lose.

NYR at MTL
MIN at DET
NJD at SJS

and OTT plays at home

And MY image is of Strome, even Toews, standing to the SIDE of the goalie, waving their sticks at pucks flying by as the goalie has excellent views of them.

Put Kane and toews back together. Toews Kubalik and Caggs have done well but try Kane Toews Nylander to let Nylander show if he has anything or confirm that he's a total bust by not being able to take advantage of having 2 of the worlds best players as line mates- again!. Besides, as much as Kane wants a righty center I think he wants and needs a righty LW even more. 92 will have to do some dirty work on that line cause you can't keep making toews play that role in addition to every other kind of role he plays so well on this team. I would like to see how strome does with ADB back on his left side and Kubalik on his right. 17 is sort of playing himself into the same type conversation as 92 already has. Let Dach play 3C with Saad and Caggs. Carpenter Kampf and Highmore as your 4th line.

That's where having a new GM to bring the right pieces in to fit either guys system would be key to getting them to being a legit Playoff team and not a bubble Playoff team

With the size of most of today's goalies, good luck with using ADB regularly as a screen on the PP. That is why I earlier today proposed to have Dach in that spot. ABD should occupy the same spot he was in when our PP was working and he was popping goals.

Toews has no problem standing right in front of the goalie, taking a beating and screening the goalie on a shot from the point, whether its even strength or on the PP. See #5's goal from the other day.

I remember this coming up last offseason and was quickly forgotten about with all the moves the Hawks made. Maybe what Friedman had heard was misinterpreted and he thought he was given an extension, but perhaps he was given a handshake agreement that if he turned the team around after the moves he made that he would be receiving a contract extension. If not then they would discuss what is gonna happen at the end of the season. That's the only thing that makes sense on why Stan would refuse to comment on it.

I think you're correct, this year - I "over-spoke" about him - but I recall him in the past doing what I mentioned.

I will retract my statement about him, tho....

So now we want Nylander to play to six...after months of roasting the coach for trying to play him in the......top six.

Shoulda been playing the kids all season.

- mohel

Nylander started as LW on the top line and if he knew what to do without the puck he would've had 15 goals in the first 25 games, mostly courtesy of toews great passes.that said, give him that one more chance to play on the lottery line with 19 and 88. Kane wants a righty LW.
