Unless we get a rental real cheap, I think the team just needs to pick up the weakened defense.
Carolina shut us down to protect the goalie. A good team should be able to work around this... it is quite a problem though. - Aetherial
It also might be just the tonic they needed to get the forwards to truly buy into playing D

That’s the real kick in the nuts. I took a buyout with the intention of moving more into a drafting position at an engineering firm and then got diagnosed with epilepsy in the 6 weeks that followed.... so I wasn’t employed when I got diagnosed so I got (frank)ed over royally - Dozzer

Ok so then what’s your point? - Dozzer
somebody said the leafs traded a 1st for muzzin, and it was actually more than a 1st. a 1st and 2 2nd round drafted prospects. that was the only point, that and grundstrom is still a good prospect as is durzi in his 1st ahl season. |

Have you seen our defence right now?
Dermott - Holl
Sandin - Barrie
Marincin - Liljegren
Rosen
Yeah, take a good look at that, and tell me 4 weeks of Phaneuf would make that worse. - Atomic Wedgie
I see it and understand that it's bad but I'll roll the dice on almost any motivated 20 year old with the Marlies, with a full year of conditioning than what we all know is a garbage defenseman in Phaneuf. He was bad even when his age allowed him to be half decent. He's finished for a reason. |

So you are saying twice the scoring champ won? The scoring champ is one player. There are 31 teams in the league....
1/31 chance that player wins the cup.
Top 10 in scoring? 10 players. 31 teams.
You are reaching extremely hard on that one.
Don’t know who it was...but someone said some of you are on HB to convince everything Leafs is half glass empty. Spot on. - Santo_44
I’m saying guys get too caught up with the idea of a superstar and forget it’s a team game. |

I think 1 day of 2020's version of unpracticed and aged Dion Phaneuf is worse than anything we have in our system. I'd rather have Gravel or Kivihalme in. Obviously I haven't seen him, but I can imagine that a year of not skating has made him slower and even slower to react.

Have you ever paused to think that it was the contract spaces the leafs valued? Like, more than the players themselves? |

Well at least that's something you can do from home eventually? Maybe consider estimating?

The day my wife and I bought our house, we bought our real estate agent a cup of coffee as we did the paperwork.
To this day, we have never thought of the price of that cup of coffee as being part of what we paid for the house.

My focus for the moment is on my health... knowing your brain is going to be cut into is a bit daunting... also.. having the “what if I seize right now?” thought in the back of my mind constantly is a bit distracting too. |

I think Carolina's was a perfect storm in a way. They have a heavy forecheck and a swarm defense and we had a defense that was wilting under the pressure of the 2 man forecheck, and when they didn't, the rushed passes were failing. Carolina was able to effect a forecheck, a neutral zone trap and a swarm because the Leafs were slow to react, unable to position themselves, and started to act as individuals against a team. They were understandably crushed.
Hopefully they're better prepared next time the two teams meet. |

To be more clear, I was more suggesting that the Leafs consider it.
Obviously you’d make him do a few laps of the rink to assess his fitness.
But being on the shelf may benefit Dion at this point - old but fresh legs. |
