Yes but how far back are you going? Twice? That over 5 years then.

Last year they were third in their division, you know, right where the leafs are

- Dozzer

From 2011/2012, the Blues have been a good / very good team that never had a "playoff" goalie.

Since 2011/2012, only two teams have more regular season points than the Blues; the Penguins and the Bruins. Washington is 4th, Tampa Bay is 5th. Chicago is 6th.

For years they tried but failed to address that position. They tried Elliot, Allen, Miller, Halak even Brodeur and nothing worked. And then luckily landed on Binnington. They were a contender with a hole that needed to be filled.

The Leafs are a playoff team that need to fills holes to be a contender.

There's a difference.

Last year, they were dead last in the NHL Jan. 1st. Does that mean the way to win the Cup is to be dead last Jan. 1st? No, absolutely not.

The difference between the Blues and the Leafs is that they rolled into the playoffs as the hottest team in the league. The Leafs are backing into the playoffs because Florida doesn't have what it takes to grab it from them. If the Leafs played the way the Blues were playing, both with wins and the defensive, playoff conducive style, then you might have a point.

But the Leafs are not the Blues. Once again, there's a difference.

There’s still 20 games left, plenty of time to get hot going into (if they even make it) the playoffs.

Right now, I would say it’s around a 45% chance they get in. They have no choice but to get hot if they want to have a chance of getting in. Beating TB (as bad as they’ve been) is a good first step.

18 games left and one of the hardest schedules. They're not rolling into the playoffs 18-0.

Then they have to play Tampa Bay in a series. They can win a game against Tampa Bay, doubt they win a series. Then Boston. Then Washington or Pittsburgh. Then the Western Champs.

Nah, they don't have it in them this year.

Based on this argument is takes 8 years to build a winner then.... cause yes, a goalie is part of a team... the leafs are at 3

So we’ve got 5 years of waiting left... Got it

Stranger things have happened.

Rielly, Mikheyev, and Muzzin returning would be a huge boost if they make it. The Leafs can beat anyone if they’re playing well, including your infallible Bruins.. The previous games up to this point effectively mean nothing. All that matters is how teams play from this point forward. You even get to erase that 9 goal disaster. Everyone LOVES to get up on their high horse and talk shït about the Leafs, but sorry to be so blunt, we couldn’t give a shît about your opinions, or anyone else’s. You either believe in your team, or give up on them and go do something else.

I choose to believe, and I’m not at all ashamed of my team. I wouldn’t trade the Leafs roster for the Bruins in a million years, and your last Cup was 10 years ago so go kick stones.

Leafs don't have the luxury of 8 years because Dubas only got Matthews signed for 5. So the Leafs have taken their already difficult timeline and made it even harder and even shorter.

You started counting from Matthew's rookie season but they weren't really contenders the past 3 years nor are they a contender this year. I wouldn't count those as years as being a contender. They didn't really win or achieve much other than qualify for the playoffs.

Why do the other teams like the blues, get the benefit of time, but the Leafs don't? You really believe Matthews will leave after his contract ?

He's good friends with Justin beiber maybe he convinces Matthews to stay. Take a look at your team, Pastrnak hasn't won a Cup yet.. Is he a bust too?

That's what I'd like to know. Laine signed for only 2 years, but no issues there! Point and Boeser for 3 years no worries!!!

Who gives a (frank) about 4 years from now or can predict anything

It's also funny how Barkov and Eichel never make the playoffs but it's ok

Again, 2011/2012, what did the Blues do? 1st in the division, won a round in the playoffs. Since then, they had some ups and downs, tweaking their group but as I already said, they were 3rd in total points from 2011-2012 up until today. They've proven SOMETHING.

What have the Leafs proven? That they can make the playoffs and lose in the 1st round.

That's not 100% on the players. In fact, that's probably 70% on the GM for not having realized that the game changes in the playoffs and that this team is ill equipped to deal with those changes.

Matthews can leave after 5 years because that's an option he has. Same way Tavares left Long Island. He's going to stay for Bieber? That's an adorable fantasy.

I don't give a poop about the Bruins but they can be given credit for winning the division, winning playoff series and going to the Cup Final. That's a proven contender.

Why are you going back a decade? The Blues still had Steen and well that's it. What's the connection there to winning a cup. It's a completely different team so that's so irrelevant What does it matter if they won a round 10 years ago?

They had several core pieces that stayed along the course. They definitely made changes, some very significant ones but given how they improved and succeed, they were obviously the right ones. The Leafs moves haven't had the same results.
