Not a single GM in our position would've traded Barrie at the deadline without getting another NHL RHD back immediately. |

Already started. Began crying about the stress test keeping people out of the market so it was lowered recently.

Ya. Move out anyone not needed long term. Move the UFAs and create a flexible situation for the offseason. Maybe even slip into 21st place and keep the first. Instead they are limping to the finish with a cap strapped offseason with few picks. Not a recipe for improving the team. |

And again, when the Leafs are eliminated from the playoffs (if they make it), they'll lose another asset for nothing.
Gardiner last year, Barrie this year, plus something else and maybe they'd have enough to get a long term solution to their 2nd pair RHD problem.
I don't give a (frank) what other GMs would have done. I want to see THIS GM do something that other GMs aren't doing and gain an advantage because of it. |

If UFAs are walking, doesnt that give them cap space?
Other than a first and a 3rd, how do they have "few picks"? |

He retained salary to gain a 5th round pick. Sounds like he did something no one else did and took a pick away from another team. Sounds like he got an advantage to me. |

Yes and that 5th round pick is going to win the Leafs the Cup in 2030. |

Yup, and that's the cost of doing business. You're an NHL GM and you're throwing in the towel on the season when still in a playoff spot. Cool. I'd love to hear how that went down in your player-only meeting on Tuesday. |

Player meeting? Easy. You guys stunk, next year, don't stink so much. |

They’ve traded away several picks and don’t have many now. UFAs waking in their case brings them back to compliance cap wise it doesn’t give them any flexibility to make the team better. Since they are walking anyway would have been better to use them to re stock the cupboards to be able to make moves in the offseason. |

You're the one constantly harping on the "surrender" tag-line.
Blowing the team apart and literally trading away young guys for draft picks would be surrender. Moving Barrie is acknowledging that he made a bad trade and he's recovering his assets to better position himself for the future. There's a subtle difference if you put in the effort to see it. |

This group surrendered a long time ago. Winning last night doesn’t change that. I’ve been on the cut bait train for months. |
