Benning won't walk away from Marky, he'll surrender an asset to keep both Demko and Marky. Marky will be a 6M$ backup in 3 years. - belcherbd

Right. The average rookie contract runs between 750-950k. We will have a few in the lineup. Marky will re sign, possibly tanev. I assume we may buy out LE after his last bonus. I was more pointing to the fact that when you look at the majority of the teams in the league, our cap situation is fairly average. - neem55
So....Everyone else’s cap situation sucks so no big deal?
There will be competition for cap dumps to those few teams able to take on bad contracts. Should make the price go up to get rid of a Baertschi or a Beagle. |

I wish they'd get rid of the cap all together or let the richer teams go over with a small tax. I hate parity. |

Why always so negative Bro? - Makita
Didn't you see my conference final loss prediction? I can't get much more sunnier than that.
Generally starting goalies have 4-6 year window where they are competitive IMO. We've had 2 from Marky, he absolutely deserves a big contract but he won't be able to maintain it beyond a few more years. |

Reading comprehension, i would think, has been important for all generations - neem55
So true. However certain generations seem unable to grasp concepts presented in text unless they are formatted to read like tweets. Maybe this will help:
Ottawa has purged their roster of most veteran players and the team now has a new younger core. They have several promising prospects on their farm team that will likely graduate to the NHL next season.
The Ottawa Senators will be in need of veteran leadership to help support their young roster.
Ottawa needs to find a way to spend $21MM+ on salaries next season just to get to the NHL’s mandatory cap floor.
Ottawa have no significant RFA's to sign or extend that would be a significant boost to their payroll for next season.
The UFA's Ottawa has that they might want to re-sign are bargain basement guys. Bringing them back won't get them much closer to the cap floor.
Higher profile UFA's at bigger contract values are unlikely to want to sign in Ottawa because the team has now bottomed out and won't be a playoff contender any time soon.
Ottawa's owner Eugene Melnyk is as cheap as they come.
After his July signing bonus has been paid, Louie Eriksson will take up $6MM in cap space next season with only $1MM of actual salary dollars payable.

If you think that's bad, Winnipeg has 10 mil to sign 13 players - NewYorkNuck
Yup, it's one of the reasons, I don't mind Benning taking a shot this year while we still have Petey, Hughes on ELC's. Helps the JV and Gaudette are making peanuts too.

1/4 1st, several of these incoherent ramblings are longer than 140 characters. I stopped at 140
2/4 you need to include 1/4, 2/4 etc. or nobody will know there is more
3/4 Ottawa’s so called extra cap space will be in high demand.
4/4 even taking up fake cap space, nobody will want lui and his sour-puss face. |

He clearly stated rookies, although I didn't bold it, both Hughes and Elias contracts are not in that price range, they have some pretty fair sized bonuses, especially Elias.
Not sure any of those other players will be ready, although I would like to see at least one get some games.
Zacmac, might be the only one that could make the team next season. |

Rafferty is getting NHL games next year 100%, Juolevi might get a couple, Lind and Hoglander won't imo unless Lind breaks out big time offensively. |

At 24, soon to be 25 years old, I would have thought he might see a few this season. I think we all might be over-rating his play.
When they called players up they chose Brisebois and Chatfield over the other defenders. Brisebois is the guy I think has the most realistic shot at making team next season. |
