I’m happy to hear that botts has finally after 1. 1/2 years realized he needed a 2C.

Berglund can count for half of a season before he quit.

- Sabretooth9

Yeah, I think that was a huge mistake, didn't have a plan when Mitts failed.

Why wouldn't they? They have to sell it.
- buffalofan19

The thing that stood out to me was.
We did a customer survey to find out what mattered to our customers most.

AKA, they took that, and then spun that to see where they could raise prices the most.

Worse, a no movement clause, but are you really looking to trade him already? This is a simple communication problem that is up to the GM to sit down and resolve with the player and coach to get everyone on the same page. In these situations, you cannot just let the coach 'handle it' while you as the GM are totally hands off.

I'm not looking to trade him, but I'm now curious about it. If he hates Kreuger, maybe he's willing to waive it to get out. I like Skinner and think he will bounce back if he's ever allowed to be on a decent line. That said, I do not like players (or people generally) that don't work hard. The whole team needs to buy in consistently.

I went to the Sabres road crew last night. Place was packed. Biron, Ray, Robert, Luce, Fuhr, Leopold & Warrener were there. Observations:

Biron is a big dude. Always assumed he was a little guy.
Jerseys all spelled correctly
Plastic straws, and plenty of them

Need a win tonight

Skinner is one of the hardest working players on this team. Always gives 110%. Don't listen to the haters.

But hes not even doing that currently.
- ImThatGuy

He's been beaten down most of the season by the coach.

The time for the GM to step in to get this resolved was months ago.

For sure, but that's just it... he doesn't.

He has flashes where he puts together a solid effort in his own end, but that's all they are. Flashes.

- BINGO!

There's a borderline obsession with every player needing to be a quality player defensively, but it's not reality.

Yes, I should have clarified: he goes all out when attempting to produce offense.

He's the very definition of a one-way player.

Bad thing is, how much better of a player could he be if he did work harder in practice.
- Buff36

After 3 decades in sports at various levels, it doesn't work that way.

Each player has their own regimen that they follow, and their own routines.

I've known plenty of practice superstars who sucked when the lights are on. Hell, I was one.

I've also known even more players that practiced at 50% effort and played great during games.

This is true. I don't need him to be great defensively, just adequate at least.

You have to be good enough offensively that your contributions there make up for the lack of them at the other end of the ice.

Laine is a good example of this, where last season he was negative contributor to the Jets at 5-on-5 due to his lack of defensive play. Luckily he produced enough on the PP to make up for it.

If you're saying you dislike players who don't practice hard, you'd be surprised at the number of athletes you'd dislike, and quite a few would be big name players.

As does pretty much any remotely successful business in the world. I don't see what the issue is here. Some customers will pay almost anything if they get the product/perks they want. Others are more cost conscious. We'll see how it turns out, but this actually seems like a sound plan.

That is hardly news, and to act like no team needs a player like that seems silly.

Bruce Smith was notorious for never practicing in training camp, and took numerous off days during the season for practice.

He's clearly frustrated with the state of things with the coach.

Again, the GM needs to step in and communicate with the player and coach to resolve things and come to an understanding.

Yet Jeff Skinner isn't a sure fire HOFer

The sports science would back up jeffy. The importance of a game day practice is debatable at best and counterproductive at worst

Oh definitely.

Game day skates probably do more harm than good.

A 1 hour classroom session instead probably goes a lot further.

Make the morning skate optional and say "you dont have to come, Jeff, but if you do, you go 100% the entire time. And if you don't come, you'll be held to a higher standard during games"

He's also not some 4th line plug making the league minimum.

Almost every coach finds a player to target as the one to take all the heat. Skinner is that for Ralph.

Solution?

Hustle on a few more drills.
