Just listened to his conference call. Said he thinks he's basically good to go, and if he doesn't play tomorrow, he'll play Friday. Definitely added some intrigue to hear him talk about playing center. Botterill views him as a winger based on his comments yesterday but Ralph may have different ideas

I'm sure he will be on the 4th line with Skinner.

I went from really disgruntled to optimistic. It seems like the ship is finally turning the right way.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that Luis Severino (elbow) has been recommended for Tommy John surgery.
Brutal news for the Bombers. Limited to just 12 innings last season due to lat and shoulder issues, Severino came down with some forearm soreness during a recent bullpen session. Subsequent tests have confirmed the need for season-ending surgery. Odds are he'll also get a late start of the 2021 season, as well. It's just awful news all around. The Yankees could look for an outside addition at some point, but they are probably going to have to lean on some young arms to fill out their rotation this year.

“I can be anywhere, winger or center, but most of the time I’ve played center for sure in my life,” Kahun said.

Krueger said Kahun will begin on the wing with the Sabres, but values his versatility.

“For him, I think it’s easier on the wing initially, but he definitely gives you that option as a centerman, which I’m well aware of,” Krueger said.

The line he plays with hasn’t been determined.

“Dominik is definitely a skill player,” Krueger said. “He’s got good hands, good feet, good speed, and he can play up and down the lineup. We don’t have that classic ‘top six, bottom six’ kind of situation here. We really are doing this by committee right now and everybody knows that (Jack Eichel, Victor Olofsson and Sam Reinhart) are the driving force in our offense, but everybody’s involved in both directions.

And my post said as much. Of course you can make deals with your current players and be status quo. But it's a lot easier to go a different route with 35M available then it is was 10M, regardless of who you have signed. It's all in how it's handled.

You should go to Cap Friendly >> Tools >> ArmChair GM
Put together your own Team.
1st, Run a Report of expected FA's so your know who to go after in that regard.

Assuming the Sabres make some trades like Risto or Montour with others in a package; yes they can open up space to get a decent 2C and even a 2RW.
The question is, will anybody be willing to trade them

I'm becoming slightly pissed after hearing that Botts was in on Trocheck but couldn't consummate the deal. I would think something like
Larsson/Asplund, Vesey, McCabe/Gilmour, Tage
would have been close.

Kahun legitimately could be a 50+ point player for the sabres. He had 37 his rookie year, is scoring at a pace this year that is about 44 points in 82 games, and should legitimately take at least one more minor step in his third/fourth year. Add to that his ice time should go up from 13:27 to probably around 15 minutes a night, and he should see some second PP time

I mean, I said the same thing about Rodrigues when he had 25 points in 48 games in his second season, and he fell off a cliff, so who knows.

The Sabres have the youngest d corp in the NHL

There is no doubt they have improved this year

I would argue if they upgrade the goaltending or Hutton stays in form then they are on their way to being a good team on the back end of things

Worst case, Reinhart can't play center, gets no points over the last 20 games, and we resign him cheaper.

I'm extremely bummed, but I'm trying to focus on the fact that he wanted him, because I was beginning to doubt whether JB even thought he needed a center. Man, if we had gotten all 3 yesterday it would have been the best deadline maybe ever.

I really want to know the offer and whether he would have offered Mitts. I would have.

He won 5 of 14 against Pittsburgh.

I'm guessing Jack took the defensive responsibilities though.

I think the killer was Haula. We don't have a legitimate center they can use to replace Trochek.

Our overall package probably had more value, but it couldn't have had a decent center in it, and that's gotta be what the sticking point was. Florida can still compete with Haula for a playoff spot. With however good our deal was, they would have had a gaping hole at center.

I think Homie already mentioned this, but Ek has the Sabres finishing the season with 70 points.

If that happens, I'll almost be impressed.

I'm not trying to back myself into a corner or bow out.. I just don't care to do that. My point is that it can be done, you don't have to sign the guys that are RFAs or you can. This summer is make or break for the Eichel era in Buffalo IMO. So we'll see how it goes.

Whose to say he can’t get it done in the offseason ?

If anything I’d prefer it. Let the chips fall where they may with this team. If they make a push, good for them. If they fall flat on their face and we pick top 10, just as good.

Botts needs to address it this offseason no if’s ands or buts. I’d rather him make the deal though when everyone is willing to make a hockey trade and not when teams are all bracing for a playoff push and aren’t being rationale

That's what I was trying to say. I was beginning to assume he didnt even want to trade for a center. Now I know he does, and I have more faith he will
