Wayne Simmonds on why he waived his no-trade to join the Sabres: "The young talent on this team. I think they're going in the right direction, and I thought that I couyld be a piece that could ultimately help this team get into the playoffs."

I was instructed that no one waives to be here.

Well worth it. However-

Laviska Shenault, Colorado
How he helps Allen: Like Ruggs, Shenault can stack up yards after the catch, while doing so with a bigger frame (6’2″, 220 pounds). His strength and contact balance help him keep plays alive even in crowded areas. He’s more of a threat to win in contested catch situations while still showing enough speed to be respected by defensive backs down the field. His skills, strength and physicality would fit well as the complementary option to John Brown.

The case against Shenault for the Bills: To draft Shenault, the Bills would likely have to spend the 22nd pick, while plenty of similarly skilled players will still available. Where Shenault falters is with his footwork on routes; it’s inconsistent and often predictable for the defensive back. His release against press coverage and separation needs some coaching, though the hope is that it will come with time and experience.

Also-

Joe’s conclusion
Of the players listed, the ones who seem the most realistic and fit Allen’s skill set the best are Ruggs, Aiyuk and Edwards. While Ruggs doesn’t offer the same contested-catch skills as the other two, he makes up for it with route running and the potential to turn underneath routes into huge plays. Of Aiyuk’s speed makes him the most desirable target in the second round, but if the Bills pass on a wide receiver through the first two rounds, they should do whatever is necessary to land Edwards and help him develop into a possession receiver in the NFL. He has the potential to outplay his draft slot and was part of the Bills’ haul in our mock offseason.

Just curious on everyone's opinion here. Not saying it would happen, but the compensation for an offer sheet between $4.2m and $6.3m is only a 1st and a 3rd.
If Montour (or even Olofsson) were offered one, at what price would you walk away?

I love The Athletic. The coverage is great for the Bills, and very good for everything else.

I'm torn as well on what the Bills should do. The one thing is that no matter what, I actually trust their front office to do the right thing. Even if it seems like an odd pick (like Dugger at 22), I'll scratch my head and say "Well... they probably know better than I do."

I would say as long as you follow more than one pro sports team, it's very well worth it.

We know Beane uses a mix of BPA and need. But of course it also depends on depth of position and guys they like too. Million variables.

Depends who's providing the OS. I'd walk from Montour at 6.5. Maybe even 6. But you need to take into account the value of the 1st round pick, too. If it's Detroit or Ottawa, it's a no brainer. If it's an elite team, I probably keep him in that range.

That's also to suggest another team thinks he's worth 6.3M

The Aho OS was a dog and pony show, and Bergavin was clowned for a week.

For me it becomes a matter of worth reading. If the quality is there or the insight etc. If it can be written better than i can then ill read it. For example I would never read an article about college football from Schoop , my 4 year old watches more college football then he does. Or when we used to get the paper youd see these very vanilla reports on guys like come on your a paid writter and my blog is better than that.

facepalm.

I get that Ralph loves that edgy player on the 2nd RW. But MoJo, for (frank) sakes.

The writing is top notch. Occasionally there are great stories up. Exclusives, if you will. Tim Graham puts some really great stuff up. Vogl and Yerdon are more of the day to day guys, same with Buscaglia and Fairburn for the Bills. It's all very good. Do the trial. You won't be disappointed.

It is both a benefit and a curse.

you outlined the benefits, flexibility to chase who you want to reshape the roster.

The Curse is that with few players under contract, they therefore have very few left to trade, thereby leaving them to either a) resign their own, b) sign FAs. FA's are more expensive and not really a GREAT option to rebuild an entire roster through.

Botts will need to resign the decent players he has ... Rhino, Montour, etc.

The Trade route is their best opportunity to obtain new players of critical need; such as 2C, 2RW, etc. Botts will need to be a magician and pull those out of his hat which has Risto, Miller and a few others in it. It isn't going to be easy.

He will likely need to resign a fair portion of the guys he has presently...Girgs, Larsson etc you know who they are... those guys are FA's now and could demand more than they were capable of as RFA's

The $35M will go quickly on the above.

- IonSabres

And my post said as much. Of course you can make deals with your current players and be status quo. But it's a lot easier to go a different route with 35M available then it is was 10M, regardless of who you have signed. It's all in how it's handled.

Welcome aboard, Wayne. Out of curiosity, when was the last time you played center?

Kahun said he's a center today btw

Dominik Kahun isn't joining the Sabres for Tuesday's practice.
Buffalo acquired Kahun from Pittsburgh on Monday. He's expected to meet the Sabres in Denver ahead of Wednesday's game. It's also worth noting that he's been dealing with a lower-body injury, so it's not clear if he's healthy enough to play Wednesday night.

Just listened to his conference call. Said he thinks he's basically good to go, and if he doesn't play tomorrow, he'll play Friday. Definitely added some intrigue to hear him talk about playing center. Botterill views him as a winger based on his comments yesterday but Ralph may have different ideas

I would disagree. He has fallen off in production but he’s low risk and his ceiling could be worth watching for.
