Yup so this dresses basically the same team that will finish Feb with one regulation win, I smell a cup.

Shaw? assume you have him on LTIR?

Has any elite center ever played with worse centers over the course of his career than Kane. Yes he has played some with Toews (who I consider very very good). But most of his career he played with 2nd rate centers.
- -Doh-

Have to wonder what his stats line would look like if he’d had consistent quality line mates that other players in the league have enjoyed.

Yeah I kinda lean towards believing Robin as far as that goes. Why does he have any reason to lie? What benefit does he get from it? He's trying to earn a long term contract. Is what it is.

BTW, you should see how the people in this group are now saying that Lehner purposely gave up on the Hawks his last five games and was a problem in the locker room. It's a f#@kin joke

- Savetheembers33

Agreed. They are windbags that show up every day spewing their biased bilge. True cancers who enjoy destruction from within. I read their crap every day in an attempt to learn something. They are pitiful human beings, who offer no solutions.

Smith is likely going to be bought out at the end of the year. Save 2M on the cap (1M against for the season).

Kubalik will probably get north of 3M on a two year deal. Strome is curious. Idk how that one is gonna play out, but he's definitely going to get more than 2.5M

- Savetheembers33

Smith's replacement on the roster will cost about $1M, so it's really only saving about $1M in cap space by buying him out. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think it moves the needle very much whether they keep him, bury him in Rockford, or buy him out...

If we can unload Maatta and Smith.

1 Kane $10,500,000
2 Toews $10,500,000
3 Saad $6,000,000
4 Caggiula $1,750,000
5 Dach $925,000
6 Carp $1,000,000
7 Kubalik $2,500,000
8 Nylander $863,333
9 Strome $2,500,000
10 ADB $6,400,000
11 Highmore $853,416
12 ?????? ???????
13 Kampf $1,000,000
forwards $44,791,749

1 Keith $5,538,462
2 Murphy $3,850,000
3 Mitchell $925,000
4 Boqvist $894,167
5 Carlsson $792,500
6 Seabs $6,875,000
7 deHaan $4,550,000
dmen $23,425,129

1 Crow $5,000,000
2 ?????? ???????
goalies $5,000,000

total $73,216,878
new cap $83,000,000
cap space $9,783,122 for 1 forward and a backup goalie

Maybe my estimates for the RFA's and Crow are a little low. But even if you bump them up we should be ok.

Almost the same team as this year's? Ugh. Also where's Shaw? LTIR at the start of the season eats up 3.9M

after 1 season? immediately to 4mil? nope

2.5 x 2 is about right

- squishy24

I say 1.5 x 5. That way I can complain about Stan when it is higher for less term.

For those who want to pay Kubalik $10 per hour, he will have arbitration rights this offseason.

Kubalik and Strome at 2.5 is very Wishful thinking!
- nickmo2699

1) Did you read the last line in my post?
2) They are RFA's so the Hawks are still in the strong position.
2A) also look at Capfriendly for RFA offer sheet calculator. $2.1 mil to $4.2 mil Hawks get a 2nd round pick. I would rather have Strome and Kubalik than 2nd round picks, but any team signing them would need to consider that.
3) Maybe they can sign Crow for less with incentives.

If Shaw is good to go next year then he would be your 12th forward at $3.9 mil. Probably an over pay, but if he has a decent year it is not exorbitant. If he is on LTIR that only eats up $3.9 mil for one day.

^ I think this is what will happen with CC, over 35+ contracts, low flat rate with performance bonuses ?

My guess is that Kubalik will sign for around $3.5 - $4 million for 2 years. I have no idea what Strome will sign for.
- DarthKane

It should be interesting to see. But if that is correct it makes moving Maata and Smith all that more important.

You feel bad for Kane? Really? Why? He makes more money in three months than most of us make in a life time. He’s healthy. He’s young. He has won three Stanley cup rings. He’s doing what he loves, playing a kids sport for a living. And you and I pay his salary! Patrick Kane should feel sorry for you!
- paulr

Hey Man, winners want to win. That's why I feel bad for him. For these guys who have that kind of money, it's not about money. It's about power, status. Right now he has zero power and is on a losing team. I'm sure it's not all butterflies and rainbows just because he can;t buy nice cars and dinners. Why would he feel sorry for me, I can afford to pay for poop.

But that one day means they can’t use that space to sign FAs - including their own (Crawford, Kubelik, Strome, UFA goalie).

He could have signed a shorter contract. He had to know when he signed that the team wouldn't be a Cup contender before the end of it.

If Dach and Nylander don't have 45 goals between them next year the needles not moving.

The great Richard Panik got nearly $3 for a lesser season. I think $2.5 is low, but I think Cags is fine and Crow high so end up in same place.

17 and 8 will be tough to negotiate. Honestly, they are both 40 point players - 8 has only one year of NHL stats, and Strome really two full seasons.

Both young, and more likely than not both with upside. Hawks have some leverage being that they are both RFAs, but low balling them too much will invite arbitration.

The holes in the forward group have likely suppressed the numbers a bit for both players, and Strome was (maybe still is) injured.

If they could get bridge deals that bring the total cost for to $6-7MM combined its a win/win. It is all about the agents and what other comps say the market values are.

It is a pickle for sure. Any space they have next year will probably only continue the status quo with any improvements in play having to come from the rookies. The FA market is basically a sandbox the FO can't play in until they have enough cap space to sign true impact guys of the Mark Stone pedigree.

Moving Maata forces you into 3 young Dmen I don't think Stan will start out that way especially because there are always injuries.

there was nothing enjoyable about this game...unless you enjoy turnovers, lousy defense...well then you have really enjoyed the season...

1. turn it over at the ozone blueline off the rush
2. throw it to nowhere to the middle of the ice from the corner
3. can't clear the puck on a pk
4. can't get a rebound after goalie has made two saves
5. and how about two hawks going nowhere and leaving the weakside wide open for the blues 2nd goal..

now that's entertainment..forget the 5 goals they got..first time all year they score 3 on the pp and find away to lose...

wow imagine what will happen when subban plays...that will be a 10 bell ringer entertainment...

- bogiedoc

The NBC guys showed one of the goals during the 2nd intermission. To the bes5 of my recollection it was Murphy and either Seeler or KK.

Basically, they were dumbfounded by the lack of awareness on the play. Like blown away by it.

Toronto got Johanssen at $3.4mil for 4 and Kapanen for $3.2 mil. for 3, those are pretty good comps.

Colliton Contract: That contract expires after the 21-22 season right? I remember hearing he had 3 full years in addition to the majority of last year.

Update: it runs through 20-21. Next year is his last season hooray!

If Shaw's contract is insured it would be better for him to be injured. I don't know now but used to be collect from insurance company tax free?

Seems some of you are coming around to the view of Colliton that I’ve held since he was hired.

History of losing
History of team defenses in the bottom half of the league
Zero experience as an NHL assistant
Zero experience as a HC or assistant in the Canadian juniors
1 year as a HC in Rockford

This is what you get when you hire an unqualified individual for a job.
