Numbers show they both face equally tough competition and get similar results.

DeMelo would have cost you nothing and instantly made all of your crappy d men better. He made Zaits look better...Hainsey look better...and Chabott look like he's worth that contract. You need a boring stay at home responsible D man. They're not that expensive. Your GM is fundamentally opposed to the idea - and thus your team fails. Your goalie is very good. Your offense is very good.

They are better under Keefe then they were with the previous coach. The eye test tells me that whenever they give up a goal, they don't know how to respond and then they end up giving up 2 or more goals in that same period

I think this is pretty bang on. And this is not only a Leafs thing, See TB the first 20 games..Maybe Freddy is on the downward trend and his best seasons are behind him. But average D + below average Goalies = mess
