He is. And it was a signing Dubas HAD to do, because Toronto needs MORE of that physical presence. Still, 4.75 or 5 is more the number I thought he might get him at.

Probably gave up years for cash.

Could well be his last contract above a million.

Is Muzzin leaving why Doughty has fallen off a cliff? I don't think they played together that often, but it's a fun narrative to make Uggie upset.
- gravyface

You can certainly say that for Martinez.

Ya. Either way. Had to get done. Not a horrible Cap hit. Just, Leafs need every inch of space they can get with the BIG 4 eating up half or almost half the team Cap.

im still on the Freddy has been bad train

First 20
high danger 158
freddy sv% .9299
goals 45-31

Next 20
high danger 141
freddy sv% .8827
goals 25-36

https://twitter.com/dragl...tatus/1232296964039041025

I think this is pretty bang on. And this is not only a Leafs thing, See TB the first 20 games..Maybe Freddy is on the downward trend and his best seasons are behind him. But average D + below average Goalies = mess

The Leafs are an elite offence generator, so they can kinda hold thier head above water when things go south.

- senstroll

The big concern is Freddy's numbers have been pretty poor for about 85 games now. That's a freaking long sample size.
No way in hell do you give this guy a big extension with the NHl going to more of a 2 goalie system.

im good, I think Muzzin is a very good player
- senstroll

Of course he is.

But he's not even close to Seth Jones. That's just silly.

Yeah but he traded a mid round pick in that deal what a dummy.

But let’s make fun of him for buying a draft pick in the Lehner trade.

- Santo_44

Lehner was fantastic as a Maple Leaf..

.

Here's my bold prediction. One of Buffalo or Montreal will go on a run in the next 10 games and make it close enough that its a 3 way race down the stretch. Just a strange feeling I have. Then again it could be gas....

Stop making sense.

I’d rather just blame the D entirely and ignore facts and numbers.

- Santo_44

It's not fair to pin everything on Andersen, as the team in front of him, has had their fair share of bad giveaways. The way this team is built, they need Andersen to be better than he has been.

If they give up the 1st goal, it seems like they don't know how to respond. I think it's a mental hurdle this team needs to overcome..

I just don’t see anyone pinning it on Andersen.

Just fair criticism for his poor play. But people feel the need to tell you that you are blaming him for losing.

Andersen gets so much credit for every win, even when the other goalie faces more shots that he deserves some criticism.

This narrative he carries the team is ludicrous.

Bang on.

Factor in injuries, lots of AHL call-ups too.

If I had to rank Percentage of Poop Play (P³), I'd say:

Andersen not being as good: 60%
Injuries: 30%
AHL Call-ups: 10%

Criticism is fair, every player deserves it if/when they play poorly.

There seems to be a large contingent of Leafs fans that say the issues are all because of Freddy and Mitch.

Our perception of players, where they are drafted, who they play for and all the jazz affects our view of them.

He is probably closer than you are giving credit for

Dubas hasn’t done anything to improve the D
- Santo_44

Let's try and be objective instead of playing the black & white card.

Dubas has tried to improve the defense. Muzzin was a good addition, and Barrie - particularly at 2.75m - was a good idea, but it didn't work out.

The counter point that Dubas hasn't done enough to improve the defense is also valid. By painting himself into a corner with larger contracts for Marner and Matthews in particular, he has limited our options on the back-end where we have been clearly exposed for years.

Similarly to our other big argument:

Andersen has been poor. The team in front of him has not been very good, and Andersen has certainly been called upon to make a large number of High Danger chances (regardless of the graphs, the calibre of HD chances has been pretty significant).

So does Andersen still make some good saves and some great saves? Of course he does. He is an above average goalie. But he is not making the same saves he was. He is not as attenuated as he has been in the past. He's frequently losing the puck. He's looking in the wrong direction. His second effort is not as solid as it has been.

I understand your point, but I think this team will only go as far as Andersen takes them.. Rightly or wrongly, he is the one that needs to be their MVP..

We know the Leafs won't score 4 goals every game. They need him to be better.

I completely disagree. And no amount of Fencorsiwick you could find would change my mind about it.

Jones is the cornerstone of his team. Muzzin is a 2nd pairing defenseman.

There's no shame in Muzzin being what he is, but he isn't in the same category.

Not sure if you can, but adjusted xGF% (accounts for score effects) puts us at 10th in the league this year. Not awesome, not terrible either.

On the marner and Matthews argument:
Can you get a tagline d for 7mnl AAV?
If so - that argument isn't valid (since Nylander can be traded for that d)

I don't need a graph to see how they respond to a goal against.

Also, I'll check Google to see if there is a graph
