Marner is kind of a Richard. It;'s funny people hate Willy but he's always careful with his comments and his negotiations weren't handled through Dreger.

Nylander is playing above his cap hit. Marner can go.
- DrunkSkunk

No he's not.
He's playing at his cap hit.
He's now paid exactly what he should be for how is playing now.

Matthews and JT won't be traded... Nylander is by all accounts living up to his contract now.
As bad as it may be, Marner may be the one traded.

- PatC80

I think they would gut the rest of the roster to avoid trading any of the top 4. You dont trade elite talent like Marner, and I dont think Dubas would ever do that.

It would be much harder to find a trading partner to take on 10m than 6.9
you may get more for marner, but I feel you'll have more options with willie.

Anywho, none of this matters if the team smartens up, gets into the playoffs and wins a round.
Hopefully it wont be a concern in a few months.

Not sure if that's true. Guys like Pageau now get 5 million per.

Nice to see Matthews and Nylander having steps forward with their seasons.

Not nice to see Marner take a step back from his usual dominant play making self.

Maybe our stars can win a cup as fast as Ovechkin did.

If the option was trading a C or a RW, you trade the RW first.

IMO, that means Matthews and Tavares will not be traded. It comes down to Marner and Nylander..
Assuming this season goes completely off the rails and they miss the playoffs.

The Leafs need a big response game. If the Leafs get blown out tonight, like a 7-2 loss than Dubas has a lot of work to do this off-season

This team is capable of going on a huge run and going into the playoffs hot.

They are also capable of stinking it up and missing.

Its really pointless to talk trades now and I hope people just (frank)ing drop it. It is old news now. We still have a playoff run, hopefully playoffs and beautiful weather ahead. Who cares about trades.

Meh, he's earning it.
6.9m for 60- 70pts
I think if he gets 75ish points, than yes I can agree it is a bargain.
For now he's making what he should be, I'll revisit at the end of season. If keeps this pace up, he could very well outplay the contract.

This.

Leafs lost to Boston in 7 last year with horrible special teams and coaching. To write them off as 1st round fodder is laughable.

I think he realizes he needs some big change, but that cant be done at the trade deadline. Leafs need a #1 RHD. I would hope that he focuses on the Blues this summer.

With Petro up, they either done resign him, or trade someone like Parayko. He needs to go all in there.

- Archaic

Agree, AP is still elite, imo he is much better all around than Parayko

On the radio this morning they were questioning Muzzin getting 5.6 and then 5 minutes later saying Pageau is a great move.

I think they will cut bait with a lot of other players first before even considering Marner.

They won't be because they will face a team with a better record. They will and should eb the underdog in the 1st round.

Agreed, but I dont see any reason why they cant win against those teams. They could just as easily win as lose. They would all be close series.
