It's a shame because I thought that for the last two years they were finally doing stuff properly (well, except for yesterday when they didn't take advantage of a sellers' market).

What if they did do stuff properly in the last 2 years including yesterday?
Replacing Tatar and Petry now and next season was near impossible. Keeping them becomes a smart thing...
fans and media are freaking out regardless of what Bergy does every (frank)ing deadline including this one.
Wait and see IMO |

They made trades to get younger, got a few picks. But they seem happy with what they have in place |

You don't replace them, what's the point of finishing 10th? 4/5 missing the playoffs now. |

Trade a few guys to get young players, kept their second round picks instead of trying to get some Andrew Shaws...They changed their staff in Laval, focusing on drafting and development.
It's just that reset thing that doesn't make sense in my mind. You can't improve and fight for a playoff spot at the same time. They are going remain average. |

Let's see, we've missed the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years and he wants to keep the same core!!!
" The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." - Albert Einstein
Laval has also missed the playoffs most years since Bergy came in, almost none of his drafts picks have panned out. At this rate, Price and Weber will be in the old folks home by the time we're competitive again.
Pure improvisation and lack of vision ... when your only explanation after repeated failures is that you we're unlucky with your picks then you're not NHL worthy.
So what do you expect fans to feel like? ... this not kindergarten but pro sports, if you don't perform then you're out. |

Exactly...and what happens when they are out of the race come trade deadline next season? Will the market favor sellers like this year? Plus, guys like Petry and Tatar will be upcoming UFAs, so their value is less.
And...what if your assets get injured?
Are you really going into 2021's off season with Petry, Tatar, Gallagher, Danault all going to free agency and lose some of them for nothing? They need to look at the bigger picture, and think long term. |
