So what's the actual trade? It seems like no one knows anything concrete.

What were you expecting for an injured defenseman? I don't really understand.
- Pomegrant

The best you can say wass it was better than nothing. But today did not move the needle forward at all for this team. Next year looks more of the same unless of some free agent signings, which I do not expect. So it a lottery win that will keep me going for now.

Wow - really liked the trade when it was a 2nd instead of a 4th

I doubt he's going to be injured for much longer. For a 2nd pair rental that could help a team in the playoffs.. 2nd round pick is much nicer than a 3rd.

Our big trades happened before the deadline. If you're looking at just today's trade of moving out Simmonds and Vats then maybe I get where you're coming from but otherwise this has been a really good deadline for the team. We traded no young players and only obtained draft picks and young prospects.

Okay, you're disappointed but what kind of trades were supposed to happen? I don't get it.

To spend on.....? Ownership saves money again. Have we been bottom 5 in salary cap since 2013?

So if it's based on games played, what if he is a healthy scratch just so he doesn't make the games played for the higher pick?

You are right. I guess I just fell for all those internet rumors, AGAIN. I will go home and have a beer and calm down.

I dont think they would scratch him when they're in the middle of a desperate playoff push lol. They got him for a reason, if they were just going to scratch him to keep him under the game limit they wouldnt have given up a pick and prospect in the first place

Yeah. Those tricksters promised to soend money ‘when it makes sense’ but make sure the team stinks eternally.

I was hesitant the moment they took over because if you look at the Sixers, the Devils are taking the same approach. Really long rebuild time in which not a lot of money is being spent and once the team is decent they might pump some money in. Oh, and the ticket prices have only gone up because they added some "attractions" in the arena to make it more casual fan/family friendly. I only get the chance to go to a couple of games a year living out of state, but spending a lot of money on tickets to a game knowing they're going to lose isn't a good feeling for me.

From the looks of it they're gonna be fighting all the way to the end. Unless Vatanen gets hurt again, we're gonna get the 3rd out of this

Also, aside from the pick we got a decent prospect that has a chance to make our roster next season, and could get a chance before this season ends. From a snap reaction, he's probably instantly our 2nd or 3rd best forward prospect, behind Foote and possibly Boqvist? He's been productive at every level hes played at, and has produced solidly at the AHL level at a young age, he's technically the leading scorer on Bing now. He has potential, its a good add.

In each deal today ownership saved money, good fo them, but it looks like we won't be a cap team for years. I am tired of the rebuild.

Fitz said the conditions are that if Vatanen plays 5+ games we get a 4th round pick, and if he plays 12+ games OR 70% of their playoff games we get a 3rd.

Good on the McLeod news, I’d like to see him finally get a fair look in the NHL, if only we could’ve traded Hayden and Rooney maybe we would be getting a long look at Merkley too.

Definitely not a great day, but not really alarmed by either trade. I think if we got a 2nd with Vats everyone would be calling it a great deal. The prospect seems solid and gives us someone who could be with the team as early as next season. WOuld have liked to see a higher pick for simmonds too but couldn't expect much from him to begin with.

Yeah i agree, i think Merkley has earned the right to stay up in his short amount of time. Also Fitz said that Kuokkanen is reporting to Bingo but will get a look with the big club before the season ends

Fitz also admitted that Vatanen being hurt absolutely lessened the return, and even scared some teams away from him completely
