I thought JR was looking to find a defenseman? When's that gonna happen? I don't mind the Marleau trade, but this better not be it.

Probably waiting for a desperate GM to bend.

my prediction - GMJR has one more really low level depth move in the Mark Streit mold and that's it

No one ever said that?

Everyone said GMJR is a gunslinger that makes a lot of moves, some are good and some are bad.

The fans want it, but most of the best guys don't think GMJR is looking. This could be it, but never count Rutherford done.

That was a narrative on here as soon as JR traded for Reaves.

That would make sense. Even a 4th pair lefty since for some reason they hate Riikola.

If Sully isn't going to trust Riikola why not move him as part of a package for another D? Might as well.

Is this sarcasm? There was even blogs on it. Remember the blogs going something along the lines of "notice how the guy running the ahl team brings up all the good players and manages the cap so well and wants team speed etc etc etc... That was said tons in the comments here as well. Wont mention a name but here is a quote I just dug up rather quickly from comments... " Pens need to fire GMJR. Botterill is clearly the better GM and its not even close. "

You wouldnt have taken Simmonds for a 5th and they retained 50% of salary?

I suppose. I like him so I'm hoping they change their mind. POJ will probably beat him for that last spot though so it's not like he's ever going to be top 6.

Good, I've seen enough and would rather Bellerieve move up a spot on WBS's depth chart.

I feel like RW's articles on this subject generally go like this:

There are some that are going to say that Botterill was responsible for all the good moves and GMJR all the bad moves, but I don't subscribe to that theory. But it is something to be said when Botterill leaves, the team deviates from the types of players that were acquired while he was here. Now do I believe he is solely responsible for the good moves? Probably not, but he may have been one of the many voices in the room to help lean one way or another

And I actually tend to agree with that sentiment. GMJR has a history of making A LOT of moves as GM. Some work, some don't. Some worked to perfection, some sank like the titanic. Has he made more good than bad? Yup, 2 cups to show for it, his recent string of trades have been solid as well, but he (like he usually does) had some hiccups between this year and the last cup run.

Would Thornton be worth a 2020 3rd RP or maybe a 4th? Could he work for us in the 3rd line?

Sure, I would. I don't give a poop about that 5th round pick, but I think there were/are better options out there. But I don't think he would thrive here as we already have Horny for the PP.

Although I wasn’t a commenter here at the time I for one definitely thought botts was the one keeping the speed train going since we deviated from that idea shortly after his departure to grit up. But I’m glad to eat crow on thinking the current dude running the show is a moron.

I want him too...I think he could still be very effective in limited role. PK and 2nd PP...plus he's massive ...people really want that here...

I saw someone complain about losing a 2nd if the Pens win the Cup.
