You can't discount the fact that he's one of, if not THE youngest player in the draft. If he was born a month later, he'd be in next year's draft, and likely be considered the consensus #1.

He had a poopty world JR, but I'm not that concerned- he's going to be a great player, and he's a huge C. #1C's are tough to find.

I think some of the players around him have increased their value with play (specifically Stutzle), but Byfield should still go in the top 3.

I think Byfield is the “safer bet” He’s got size and specializes as a playmaker.

Personally I like Stutzle better because, he looks like he has the higher ceiling, has a better shot and actually is a better playmaker (believe it) while, playing in a league amongst men.

I’d go with Stutzle at #2

Now the tough job of putting a nhl team together is all on Dorion. The easy part of dismantling is over.

some people put WAAAAYYYY too much stock in the world jr's when assessing Byfield.....completely ignoring the fact that Canada almost never gets draft eligible players to play big roles at the tournament. Lafreniere did because it was his 2nd year on the team, and despite also being draft eligible, is almost a year older than Byfield. Byfield was the youngest player on the team by a comfortable margin.

i'd be shocked if he wasn't taken at 2

bruhh, their not winning more than 7-8 games the rest of the season lol

as long as they do not get more point than NJ and ANA before the end of the season, because most teams usually drop a few spots in the draft, look at OTT the last 2 years.

Weren’t you ripping Askarov for having a terrible showing at the worlds? But now you’re saying to give Byfield a pass because of his performance?

If he actually made an impact, he would’ve moved up the line...age rarely plays a factor.

Him and Drysdale were the youngest on the team (both 17). Except Drysdale started on the bottom pair and worked his way up to a top 4 role by the end of the tournament.

That’s not to say Byfield won’t still be taken after Lafreniere, but if I were selecting 2nd I would take Stutzle over him

There’s a big difference between being given a starting job and poopting the bed, and simply not being given a chance.

Askarov was the starter and played bad. Byfield played limited mins on the 4th line and wasn’t given a chance

Oh, and age always plays a role on team canada. When was the last time you saw a draft eligible 17 year old get top mind on those jr teams? Probably McDavid....
