huge train dodge.....I love pageau, but holy poop is that way too much, both on $$ and term - sensarmy_11
It will be a bad deal in 2-3 years, if not sooner. Great job by Dorion to maximize the value. If the Sens didn't go the extra length for Karlson, Stone, and Duchene contracts to entice them more, Pag is a no-brainer to be moved.
Ennis, Namestikov, and Demelo returns were a little lower than expected, but at least you got something. |

of those 3, the only one I hated was DeMelo.....but that's more because if that's all that was being offered, I would have preferred re-signing him (given age, ability, likely contract, chemistry with Chabot, etc) |

You said it..there was no intention of keeping superior players..why would they want to keep a 2nd-3rd line player on a long term deal when they’ll have so many pageaus in their system?
Dorion has redeemed his dignity a bit. The Demelo deal is still annoying..unless they’re able to resign him in the offseason which would be a “wow” move

Ottawa from a rebuild perspective has won this draft.and so they should have considering they had the best and most to offer.
Holland for Edmonton though, has made the best moves without sacrificing any substantial pieces
Boston a close second |

So, it is rather remarkable what Dorion has done.
He has added a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th draft pick this week.
It is like Ottawa has a second seat at the draft table.
He already had extra 1st and second round picks before the week even started.
Amazing! |

nope, but Lafreniere is going to be a generational type player....Dahlin isn't - sensarmy_11
Generational? that remains to be seen. Will he be a 70+ a year player - probably. 100+ point a year player - probably not.
Let's put things in the 2020 perspective. I would take Byfield/Stutzle + Drysdale over Lafreniere. How about you?
And I really like Lafreniere... |

Lafreniere is a can’t miss prospect my dude.
I don’t think people realize how good he is.
To be a notch above a class, that is seen as maybe one of the deepest drafts in forever is a feat you can’t ignore.

i never said he was going to be like McDavid i said they compared him to McDavid, you are nitpicking here, click bait or not they compared him to McDavid, Mathews, Hall, they said he was a generational player....same said Dahlin was going to be as good a EK or better
https://thehockeywriters....-erik-karlsson-or-better/
so i guess everything that you disagree with is click bait? got it troll. - Athrin

Yes. Lafreniere is a can't miss as a high end player. That doesn't mean he will be the best player in this draft. That remains to be seen.
I would take Byfield or Stutzle + Drysdale over Lafreniere because I think all three of these players will be fantastic down the road.

SJS got a 1st for Barclay Goodrow, Dorion could have gotten 2 first and an A prospect for ennis...(sarcasm), TBL got fleeced on a galactic level |

He will be the best player in this draft and I don’t think there’s a debate.
Obviously you can’t predict how careers will play out (injuries, team, linemates), but he, in my eyes is the most sure-thing Star.

no prospect if a sure thing... remember Yakupov, Daigle and so many others 1st OA that flopped hard. |
|
|

Exactly. I was about to post something similar. Thornton will go now too. Hopefully they sell everything. God willing, the Sens get two top 3 overall picks. - kaptaan
Tkachuk-Byfield-Holtz would be tasty! |

Exactly. Think of it as franchise mode in NHL 20. You wouldn’t trade two 89 overalls for one 92 overall. |

Seriously?
The yakupov draft was so weak, not just based on where players are now but leading up to it, there wasn’t a lot of buzz.
And Daigle? You’re gna mention a draft that happened in the 90s? Lol
More likely then not, the 1st overall picks tend to be the best players in their draft class.
This year is no different with Lafreniere.
Yes no prospect is a sure thing, fine...but you’re more likely to get a flop between 2-5 then get a flop at 1.
I could easily go through a list of the most successful 1st overalls and some of the worst 2-5 picks in the last 10 years |

Hockey News podcast is on winners and losers on trade deadline day. Winner is Ottawa over and back again. Full marks to Dorion for an exceptional rebuild job. He is doing it how the textbooks laid out the proper way to do a rebuild.
Opening night the 12 forwards I want to see starting for the Sens are:
Tierney
Connor Brown
Asinamov
Duclair
Tkachuk
Nick Paul

Colin white won't have a better opportunity then this to prove he is worth the money he signed for. Good haul for dorion the last few days. Should have lots of talent on that team in 5 years. |
