There will be some really good players available this summer as teams try to stay under CAP and resign their own RFA's. 4 2nd round picks will offer tremendous leverage for the Sens to pick up some very good players at a discount cost.

The San Jose Sharks have traded the veteran forward to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a third-round pick

Props to Spatso for correctly predicting Pageau to the Islanders.

Yes I called that long ago. But, more recently I thought Lou had gone cold on the idea and that it was not going to happen. I do like the Isles and will have no difficulty cheering for them in playoffs...especially with the addition of Pageau.

This is a huge win for Ottawa. San Jose keeps lineup is getting more thin by the minute.

Really?? A couple of lottery tickets for a young, top pair guy who’s locked up for a few more years. Man, I’d jump at that if I were Dorion
- AxlRose91

I just think you're taking shortcuts at that point, and they're too early in this process to be doing that.

So at this rate, are we going to need a zamboni driver to ice a team?

Seriously though, AHL playoff aspirations hinge on who else leaves holes on the big club.

- ktownfan

Not really - there are a number of mehs (Beaudin comes to mind) down in the A we can move up with little impact on the roster down there, plus the opportunity to recall Euros pre 3pm if desperate. There's also the waiver wire, which we might need to pay close attention to after the Goloubef situation.

Flip the proposition. If Ottawa wins the lottery and Jersey offers the 5th and 9th plus a second for Lafreniere would you do the deal?

As you say, it is way too early.

Need to see play leading to Memorial Cup. Right now I see Sens ending up with Rossi and Drysdale. Would I trade them both plus a sweetener for Lafreniere....don't know.

never, it is not certain Laf will be any good, look at Jack and kappo, Nolan patrick, Yakupov.. all 1st and 2nd OA that well for their draft position are busts so far or are under performing in a massive way.

So bring JGP back in July, assistant captain, 5x4.5 deal with bonus targets and cash in twice on the same deal.

On a somewhat unrelated note, but since you're watching the comments Michael - any idea why they signed Hubert Labrie to an NHL contract? Is it possibly because they have plans to trade so many players they need it to meet the minimum contract number? I didn't really get that move.

Exactly. I was about to post something similar. Thornton will go now too. Hopefully they sell everything. God willing, the Sens get two top 3 overall picks.

I think they needed a body for the NHL roster and want to keep the young, future guys in the AHL. Basically a stopgap measure.

Hah of course that's it. So we're (possibly) going to see Labrie on the NHL roster shortly. They did send him back down immediately so he can play in the A playoffs if we don't need him up, but our D corps both up and down is way thinner than our forwards. That said, Drysdale could be in the mix for Dorion.

That would explain why there were no condition of re-signing Pageau on the picks as that was their plan all along...

Avs just acquired Hutchinson - could Anderson possibly be on the move to the Avs (we need an appropriately terrible goalie back in return + a pick or something)?

Is it not possible Hutch would give us even MORE quality losses? This team is gonna be fun to watch fail.

that's an insanely good return for, what amounts to, a 3rd line center who's a UFA......and none of the conditions or dependant on him re-signing, which is miraculous
- sensarmy_11

Totally agree... Dorion appears to do his best work when trading secondary talent, as opposed to either premium or depth players. This morning's Pageau trade is front-and-centre, with the Dzingel and Brassard deals being some of the best examples in previous years.

Regardless, A+ work on the Pageau deal... having 3 firsts (including 2 high-end lottery picks), 4 seconds, and 2 thirds in a strong draft year is absurd. I'm now fully expecting them to move up at least once or twice in this draft to pick up players they're especially keen on.

The UFA list is down to Anderson, Ennis, Hainsey, and Borowiecki... there are rumors around Ennis going to the Oilers, Hainsey is almost perfect trade deadline bait, and I find it hard to believe that one of Carolina or Colorado wouldn't make a move on Anderson. But I guess we'll see what happens.

Impressed Dorion got another 1st and 2nd for Pag.

But getting another 1st specifically in this draft...thumbs up, can’t complain.

Namest deal is a wash.

Ottawa could still make more moves and should

pageau extended

Hearing 4.825M AAV for 6 years via Pierre Lebrun

And that was too rich for our owner and really for a player his age...term and price.
I would have done 4x4 to keep him and cringed at it.
So

Dorion did well.

Too expensive, but what I expected him to get. They will regret it in two years

Term and amount unknown, apparently that was a fake tweet for the amount and term
