How do you figure? They did some buying and selling. Simmonds scored 17 goals last year and 24 the year before. If he can somehow put a couple in the net, it is going to be much better than a 5th round pick that won't do anything for them this year or possibly ever. And NJ is holding half of the salary.

They also got rid of a bunch of salary and 2 pending free agents for a young RFA that was playing in Pitts Top 6.

There was nothing Earth shattering for them. But they made moves to slightly improve. If it is enough to get them to playoffs, great. If not, well it's not like they gave up anything of consequence.

If any of this mattered at all why is NJ terrible when they probably should have been good

Sheary intermission interview a month or so ago paraphrased: I skate hard and bring a level of energy that I hope motivates the team.(Plenty of people in my bar league could do that) Purposely avoided anything in terms of playmaking and scoring. He was simply content with a mediocre 200 ft game.

Evan will simply be out of the league in 2 more years and Bogie has a very distorted opinion of himself that somehow has bought him more time than he should have had...1st rd pick syndrome I guess.
