I like Pageau and at 5m its a steal. People need to look around. 2nd and 3rd line players aren't getting 60-80 points anymore. - toddkac
Looks at the good teams, they're definitely getting 50 to 60.
Looks at pageau as a 40 point player while playing top line minutes. |

He has mitts and cozens in his pipeline ...... and he’s had 2 years to replace oreilly. Clearly he didn’t want think 2C was a dire need - Sabretooth9
The plan was to have Sobotka and Berglund as part of the core for the next two years. Don’t forget that Berglund was a 20 goal score many years and was capable of a second line roll. It was disappointing and not really anyone’s fault that things worked out so poorly and he just left the league. |

As it stands, guys who could potentially play 2C for us next year...
Cozens
Mitts
Kahun
MoJo
I guess Cozens is the guy guy most would slot in there at the moment
But i understand wanting someone we know can be decent (at least) in that spot
Big question is...
-do we go after a legit 2C (if available), and give up the major assets it would take to get him?
OR
-do we look for a good placeholder while we wait for Cozens to develop?
Cozens just as easily be a 50point 2C next year as he could struggle - jdfitz77
sorry but the 1st overall pick will be #2 center next year when we miss the playoffs by 4 points and then win the lottery. Boom female doges

Sure
But are we building to be a Contender for the Cup,
or just the playoffs?
Bc that’s 2 different things
And requires making smart moves,
for the RIGHT players,
not just for anyone who’s better than what we’ve got - jdfitz77
How is Trocheck (who is the topic of this conversation) just anyone? He's a legitimate quality center.
Since they need 2 centers, not one, yes, they absolutely need a 50 point center, and that's even if Cozens will be ready. I would look to trade and/or sign two centers this offseason. He needs to stop waiting on maybe's.
Bonino works because he's good and his contract is not long. |

Not at center
I feel like Trocheck could’ve been had
Maybe Homie or 89 will hear if we were in on him at all?
Or maybe Botts just doesn’t think he’s the stud from 3years ago anymore? - jdfitz77
price was too high
it's like offering florida casey, pilut, marcus johansson and tage for him |

I wonder if we did win the lotto,

Sabres have the rights for Kahun this summer
in essence it's sheary, e-rod and a 5th for simmonds and kahun
neither sheary nor e rod was getting offered a contract
we got a rental on the cheap for a playoff push and middle 6 winger that's young and has speed

Trading for a guy like Bonino is reasonably priced
Trading for a guy like Ryan Johansen would cost a lot more
And if we do trade for a guy like that,
we better be damn sure that he really is a great #2
Bc we cant take on an 8mil cap hit for the next 5 years is he’s the “wrong guy”
That would kill us
Imagine if we traded for Pk Subban &/or Kessel this past season?
Maybe Botts didn’t think Trocheck was worth trading for?
He’s only playing at a pace of 15goals,
for the 2nd straight season
It’s understandable if he didn’t think he was the right guy... obviously Florida doesn’t either! |

If Trocheck gets back to being a 75point player,
it’s a steal for the Canes
If he stays at 15-35-50points or so,
idk that it’s a huge upgrade over a healthy Haula
If Florida doesn’t re-sign Haula,
they got fleeced
The prospects they got would’ve been something like us giving up Asplund, Bryson & Tage
We don’t really have a Haula comparable to throw in there...
*and maybe that’s why we didn’t get him?
FLA is still trying to make the playoffs now after all, and would need a better Trocheck replacement than Larsson |

This won’t happen but it’s the best chance we have at running the table:
Olofsson-Eichel-Simmonds
Skinner-Larsson-Reinhart
Kahun-Mojo-Vesey
Girgs-Lazar-Okposo
