Yes it is
I didn’t say EVERY top10 pick, did i?

saying top 10 picks develop into good players all the time carries the same implication

he means for next season.. they can't do that again and hurt another players development by forcing it
- SabresFaninIndiana

Well the Sabres franchise will exist past next year
And no matter what we do...
We aren’t Cup Contenders NEXT season

Get a better option for a placeholder till Cozens is ready...
which btw, COULD be next season!

But the main point is not to overpay out of desperation
Keep building the team the right way

With everything that went wrong this year...
If Hutton goes 4-4-2 instead of 0-8-2,
then we are currently ahead of the Leafs

Not when i say right after it that i think Cozens will be a good player and Mitts “still could” be one

I'm not convinced Botterill feels he needs a center
- jcragcrumple

I’m sure he doesn’t think he needs one long term
I don’t either

Cozens should be our 2C for a long time
Mitts still has a good chance to be that quality player too if he puts in the work

Would u overpay for a 2C if u though your future was already set with 2 guys you’ve picked in the top10?

A placeholder makes sense

One of Risto/Montour is gone in the offseason for the 2C.

I would have offered Mitts as a centerpiece for a Trochek deal. I doubt Botterill would have entertained that idea. I think that + would have bested the hurricanes offer. Such as it is, I think we're still left with a lot questions and no firm answers.

I get the sense Botterill is confident with what he has. We'll see how it plays

Depending on your definition of good, I'd say:

2012: 6-7/10
2013: 9/10
2014: 7/10
2015: 9/10
2016: 6/10
2017-2019 are still too early to call.

so like 3 out of every 4 is good.

Is that bc u think Trocheck will get back to being a 30goal scoring 75point player...
or bc u think Mitts will never be a legit top6 guy?

I don’t think Carolina gave up a lot for Trocheck
But he’s also had 2 “down” seasons in a row now where he’s regressed to a 50point player

And if he still thinks Mitts will be a good player,
then it’s very understandable why he didn’t make the type move u suggest

Really fencing in your take there. NHL Draft picks in every round develop into NHL Players ALL the time. Prove me wrong.

I like our chances with Cozens a lot
Mitts concerns me, but i still think he has a chance to be good too
And if Botts thinks Mitts is another “Nylander”
then I’d bet he tries to move him for a guy like Jokiharju
Which I’m also ok with

We look back every year at 5 games or so and say we should have won those games, 3 goal leads, losses to bad teams etc. Every year. That has to change. It starts with the draft and then acquiring a few decent players.

Ok, fair enough. I’ll clarify

By “all the time” i meant most (not all) top10 picks develop into good players

I went on to explain further saying that i think Cozens WILL be good, and i think Mitts still COULD be good

I didn’t realize it was so hard to decipher what i meant

It sure would be nice to know what it's like to have a center not named Eichel that 'regressed' to a 50 point annual production level.

Sure
But are we building to be a Contender for the Cup,
or just the playoffs?
Bc that’s 2 different things
And requires making smart moves,
for the RIGHT players,
not just for anyone who’s better than what we’ve got
